AGAIN: Almost 20 dead and wounded in "no guns" U.S. Army victim zone

No one knows for sure who said it, but the one about defining insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result looms large in the wake of third active killer attack on a domestic U.S. military facility since President Obama took office.

Military officials told reporters that an Iraq war veteran who suffered from mental health issues opened fire on fellow service members at Fort Hood on Wednesday, killing three and injuring 16 before turning the gun on himself. The attack came just two days after Fox News reported that the FBI is searching for a recent Army recruit believed to be planning a "Fort Hood-inspired jihad against U.S. soldiers."

Military officials declined to name the attacker Wednesday night, pending notification of family members, but NBC News identified the deceased gunman as 34-year-old enlisted Army soldier Ivan Lopez.

Lopez had been assigned to the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary). The suspected gunman had fired shots at individuals in the 1st Medical Brigade, [Lt. Gen Mike Milley, commanding officer at Fort Hood], said Wednesday evening.

Milley said the shooter then left that building, got into a vehicle and continued firing. He then went to another building at the post, went inside and opened fire. When a military police officer confronted him, the gunman put his gun to his head and pulled the trigger, Milley said.

And so we see that, once again, the killer didn't stop until he was confronted by a good person with a gun.

In an active killer situation, the only queston is, how long will the atacker have to do his terrible deed before he is confronted? The United States policy of having "no-guns" military bases ensures the time the active killer has will be much, much too long.

It appears U.S. officials have learned nothing since November 2009, when Maj. Nidal Hasan opened fire on dozens of people at Fort Hood. 13 people were killed and more than 30 others injured. Hasan's terrorist attack couldn't be stopped by any of the trained soldiers he was attacking, of course, because they had all been disarmed by U.S. military policy. Hasan's attack only ended when he was confronted by a police officer.

U.S. officials still didn't get the hint last year, when an attacker killed 12 when he opened fire at the 'no-guns' Washington Navy Yard. Once again, the attack didn't end until a police officer finally arrived.

And I have little doubt that, with our extremist anti-gun rights president as commander-in-chief, U.S. officials still won't hearn the lesson after this latest attack.

As far as I am concerned, the blood of the victims is on their hands.
