Grassroots Battle: Anti-Gunners urge uprising
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 11/14/2002 - 17:54.The anti-gun extremists are at it again. In a press release carried by the national anti-gun organization "Join Together", the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence has issued a press release urging people to urge their Senators to vote against HB274.
Without question, the OCAGV's anti-HB274 message will receive more media coverage than the press release OFCC issued last week. Here is a link to the OCAGV press release on the "Join Together" website.
This is all-the-more reason why we need each and every person who reads this message to get involved NOW!

Video: John Lott/ OFCC PAC vs. ''Million'' Moms
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 11/14/2002 - 14:00.If you weren't able to attend or want to relive the moment, click here to view footage of John Lott, OFCC PAC volunteers, and the scant few "Million" Mom marchers on hand at the Independence, OH rally.
HISTORY:
Rep. Jim Trakas (R-17), of Independence, was hammered on television by Democratic opponent Blair Melling in the 17th District. Melling, a Solon lawyer, blasted Trakas for supporting a concealed-weapons law. Trakas endured weeks of televised attack ads portraying his pro-Concealed Carry Reform stance as a wild-wild West-style position.
Trakas watched as a highly-publicized election eve anti-Trakas rally, sponsored by the Ohio contingent of the Million Mom March, was held in the park he named when a City Councilman. And he smiled, as pro-CCW counter-protesters, many representing OFCC PAC, outnumbered the so-called Million Mom's by 2 to 1.
So how did the "Mom attack" fare at the polls? Trakas soared to a convincing victory, taking votes nearly 2 to 1.
Concealed guns OK with voters in poll
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 11/14/2002 - 13:10.Nearly nine out of 10 people taking part in an online poll conducted by Sun Newspapers believe Ohio should allow civilians to carry concealed weapons.
In the poll, which is on the newspaper’s Web site, 87.5 percent of those voting favor letting people tote hidden guns. The results are for voting done from Nov. 7, when the poll started, through 5 p.m. Nov. 11.
A total of 399 votes were cast during the five-day period, according to Dennis Seeds, editorial systems manager for Sun Newspapers and coordinator of its www.sunnews.com Web site.
Seeds said polling will continue on the concealed-carry issue. Visitors to the site’s home page can vote on the concealed-weapons question — along with two others — and check current poll results.
Taft may get to nominate justice to Ohio Supreme Court
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 11/14/2002 - 13:00.Now that Republicans have reassumed control of the U.S. Senate, they are promising quick consideration of President Bush's judicial nominees, a process which was bottled up in political posturing by Tom Daschle (D-SD).
Justice Deborah Cook, an Akron Republican, is awaiting confirmation to the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, and her confirmation would raise the opportunity for Gov. Bob Taft to nominate a replacement.
Republican Gov. Bob Taft actively pushed for Cook's nomination to the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. He said he
would replace her with someone sharing her judicial approach.
"I would want to appoint to the court someone like Justice Cook who
believes in interpreting the law, who believes in judicial restraint," Taft
said Thursday, Nov. 7.
