UPI: Suspect in university shootings had ''automatic'' weapon
Submitted by cbaus on Sat, 05/10/2003 - 06:25.Details surrounding the tragic shootings at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Friday are still sketchy. Not much known about the criminal, his motives, or even the weapon he used (some reports suggest he had an "automatic" (and thus illegal) rifle). Thus, it much too early to provide a detailed analysis of this terrible act (sadly, history warns this won't stop anti-gun extremists from rushing to exploit the event).
But since many will be interested in reading more about the subject, we'd like to recommend a new book, Dr. John Lott Jr.'s The Bias Against Guns, which among other things, presents the first-ever look at how CCW laws affect multiple-victim public shootings.
According to Lott's research with William M. Landes, "states without right-to-carry laws had more deaths and injuries from multiple victim public shootings per year [both in absolute numbers and on a per capita basis] during the 1977 to 1997 period. States without right-to-carry laws account for the large majority (often around 90 percent) of deaths and injuries."
A limited number of AUTOGRAPHED copies of Lott's new book are available in the OFCC Store. Click here for more information.
