Column: Need for concealed carry is no joke
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 05/22/2003 - 15:25.Michael J. Maurer from ThisWeek, a community newspaper, has written a favorable article about concealed carry reform and our Ohio Supreme Court case: Need for concealed carry is no joke
Compared to the emotionally motivated opinion of ThisWeek's Vince Dunbar, this is great material:
The anti-gunners see only the risk that these two raped, robbed women and the dead Sandercock, and everyone they represent, will be incompetent, or make the wrong choice, and kill the wrong person.
But many of us hold a different belief. We believe that members of a free populace ought to make such a choice, whether to bear arms, individually, answerable only to the individual's own conscience and sense of responsibility, and we believe the Constitution says so. And, if things go wrong, and innocents are injured or killed as a result, then those of us who decide to carry must answer to a responsible law, God and ourselves.

Text of Million Mom's anti-self-defense business form letter
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 05/22/2003 - 14:45.The Million Mom March's Lori O'Neill has been working to scare businesses into opposing HB12 for months now.
Apparently she has found very few willing ears. In Senate testimony Wednesday, O'Neill provided just five form letters, identical in content, on letterhead from five Ohio businesses (well, four and a half - one is owned by the Communist Chinese).
Click on the "Read More..." link below for a list of the businesses, and the text of the form letter.

These extremists & businesses want you to remain defenseless
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 05/22/2003 - 12:12.Pro-self-defense law enforcement officers and women, as well as the other "good guys", seemed to steal the show this week’s Senate hearings, even in the media. But lest we become over-confident, it bears noting that the anti-self-defense extremists are still spouting their rhetoric.
Last week, we had to "translate Toby". This week, it was more of the same from a troop of "Chicken Little’s", who warn that despite it’s high position across the nation, the sky will fall in Ohio if HB12 passes.
All summaries of testimony are paraphrases, unless provided in quotation marks. The facts are presented below each persons’ testimony in blue.
On Tuesday, May 20, opponent testimony was offered by an Ohio State University assistant professor, and the mother of a woman injured at the CWRU shooting.

Senate hears from plenty of ''Good Guys'', too
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 05/22/2003 - 08:33.Much has been said about the excellent testimony offered in the Senate this week by pro-self-defense women (even, surprisingly, in the media). But there was also important testimony offered by the “good guys”.
On Tuesday, May 20, testimony was offered that addressed several important elements in the debate on HB12:
• Rick Kaleda testified in favor of HB12, as a husband, father, and an employee who commutes 55 miles through two high crime urban areas to work each day (he is also OFCC member and Mahoning County Coordinator). Kaleda’s testimony focused on the proposed parking lot ban, and how it would affect individuals like himself. In response to a suggestion made last week by Sen. Stivers that employees who work for employers who ban in parking lots could simply “park across the street”, Kaleda explained that the nearest public parking to his employer is 1 mile away. Should his employer be allowed by the Senate to prevent him from storing his firerm in his personal vehicle in their parking lot, he would be forced to walk 1 mile to work (while defenseless, of course).
