Nashville: Federal agents arrest Iraqi native buying machine guns, grenades

Hmmm...given all the rhetoric from John Kerry and the gun ban lobby about the recently-expired Clinton Gun Ban, we thought terrorists could just go to a local gun show to buy "weapons of war..."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Federal authorities said Friday they arrested an Iraqi-born Nashville resident on illegal weapons charges during a sting operation set up after he made threats about "going Jihad."

Ahmed Hassan Al-Uqaily, 33, was arrested Thursday afternoon as he was putting weapons he had purchased from an undercover agent into his car, according to an affidavit from FBI agent Greg Franklin.

Authorities said the suspect paid $1,000 to buy two disassembled machine guns, four disassembled hand grenades and hundreds of rounds of ammunition from the agent, who was working with the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force.

"This arrest demonstrates our ability to thwart potential threats to our communities before an attack can be carried out," U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft said in a statement.

''No-guns" shopping center heiress wants to go to Washington

26-year-old shopping center heiress Capri Cafaro wants to be the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports she is planning to spend a million dollars between now and Election Day broadcasting her image and her message on TV.

"Her quest to oust five-term Rep. Steve LaTourette is ambitious," writes PD reporter Steve Luttner, "but her ample checkbook has forced the veteran Republican congressman to wage his first serious campaign in years."

Luttner's article continues - "She doesn't apologize for her substantial wealth, which comes courtesy of her family's Youngstown-based Cafaro Co. builder of shopping centers. She said she has never held a paying job other than those given to her by her family. Rock star Jason Bonham performed at her 21st birthday party."

While the OFCC PAC does not make endorsements in races for national offices, Ms. Cafaro's campaign should draw the attention of every law-abiding, self-defense supporter in northeast Ohio.

Why?

Because Capri Cafaro is emulating John Kerry in trying to pretend she is pro-gun, because Cafaro's campaign funding comes from her family's shopping center empire, and because those shopping centers were all posted with "no-guns" signs following passage of Ohio's new concealed carry law.

From the Plain Dealer article: "Cafaro...supports Second Amendment gun-ownership rights. 'It didn't prove effective,' Cafaro said of the federal assault-weapons ban that recently expired. 'Concealed carry [of guns] has been effective in reducing crime in the states that it has been in.'"

Yet when a customer of one of her family's malls wrote to complain about the discriminatory signs, Cafaro responded in an April 15 email (provided by the recipient of the email to OFCC) as follows:

"You are not the first to express this sentiment regarding my family's properties and the CCW ban.

I, unfortunately, have no authority over what they do or what policies they set.

While I am not and have never been involved in my family's commercial real estate business, I believe they, along with all property owners, have reserved the right to determine who and what goes on within the boundries [sic] of their private property. It is possible that many public places, such as bars and restaurants, will follow suit, due to liability purposes."

If Cafaro was at all familiar with Ohio's new concealed carry law, she would know that the Ohio General Assembly inserted an immunity clause for businesses, protecting them whether or not they choose to post these discriminatory signs.

"This much is clear. Capri is quite willing to spend the money these 'no-guns' shopping malls bring in," observed Chad Baus, Vice Chairman of the Ohioans For Concealed Carry PAC. "But when it comes to taking responsibility for how gun owners are discriminated against and rendered helpless when they go there, she claims she has no involvement with the malls. Like John Kerry, she is trying to have it both ways with gun owners."

"According to supporters who have contacted OFCC, customers can't even drive to the mall and leave their firearms in their car if they chose, because the ban is effective in parking lots," Baus continues. "By prohibiting firearms in its parking lots, the Cafaro Co. has not only made their customers and employees more susceptible to violence while at the mall, but has effectively disarmed them while driving to and from."

Rep. LaTourette was quoted by the Plain Dealer as saying recently that he is "unnerved" by Cafaro's ability to write herself huge campaign checks.

"I'm concerned she could buy the race. She's only 26 years old, she's beating the crap out of my experience...". "I think people deserve to know what she thinks about things, not just how she looks on television."

On that, concealed handgun license-holders who are disarmed at Cafaro-owned shopping malls couldn't agree with you more, Rep. LaTourette.

KEY OH Senate race: Pro-CCW Padgett faces challenge in Appalachia

The battle for Ohio's 20th Senate district (Muskingum, Washington, Athens, Guernsey, Coshocton, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble Counties) may be one of the most important in terms of improving the makeup of the Ohio Senate to one that is willing to override a veto, if necessary, to improve Ohio's concealed carry law.

Senator Joy Padgett served in the Ohio House from 1992 to 1999, and accepted appointment last January to serve the remainder of Jim Carnes' term upon his resignation.

Padgett was the original sponsor of legislation allowing Ohioans to carry concealed firearms.

Her opponent, Terry Anderson, officially announced his candidacy for Senate on December 29. 2003. At that event, Anderson revealed his position on concealed carry reform (which had not yet been passed into law).

"To me, it's a false issue," he said. "It's a hot-button issue that gets to people's emotions, but it's not relevant to most real lives here. Passing concealed carry is not going to bring one more dollar into the schools of southeastern Ohio."

Anderson, a past member of the liberal academic and media-elite, has never held public office. In fact, according to a recent Athens Messenger story, Anderson has not bothered to vote in a general election since November 2000.

The gun issue is very much a part of the battle for Senate Disctrict 20. At a recent press conference set up by the Anderson campaign, the first three questions posed were related to the firearms issues.

The race could be Ohio’s most expensive legislative race ever, according to Columbus Dispatch reporter Lee Leonard, with Senate Republicans possibly spending more than $1 million on Padgett’s campaign to preserve a 22-11 super-majority, and with Democrats calling George Soros-supported, anti-President Bush 527s to register voters and get them to the polls.

"My commitment to the people of Southeastern Ohio remains unchanged," says Padgett. "Throughout this campaign and into the future, I will continue to provide steady, experienced leadership for Southeastern Ohio workers and their families."

And Padgett's steady, experienced leadership will most definitely include support for Ohioans' right to bear arms for self-defense.

''Million'' Mom March/ Brady bunch urges Ohio invasion on Election Day

In an October 8, 2004 press release, the "Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March" urged their anti-gun followers to "pack your bags and get to a battleground state!"

Million Mom March -- in partnership with America Votes -- is helping to
coordinate the largest effort to mobilize and turnout voters in history!
We need more than 30,000 volunteers on the streets in 14 battleground
states during the final five days of this election (Friday, October 29th -
Tuesday, November 2nd). Can you take Election Day off? How about the weekend before? How about the week before? Let us know if you are interested and available.

In addition to the nowhere-near-a-"Million" Moms, America Votes (which claims to be non-partisan) is supported by the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (members of which are busy suing gun manufacturers out of existence), the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund (members of which are busy trying to steal away your hunting rights), NARAL Pro-Choice America, 21st Century Democrats, etc. etc. etc.

The release continues:

There is something for everyone to do -- regardless of where you live: If you live in DC, Virginia or Maryland: go to Ohio. If you live in
Massachusetts: go to New Hampshire or Maine. If you live in New York or New
Jersey: go to Pennsylvania. If you live in California: go to Nevada or
Oregon. If you live in Illinois: go to Wisconsin or Missouri.

Interesting, isn't it, that nearly all of the states they want people to come from are some of the most anti-gun states in the U.S., and almost all of the states they want people to infiltrate have laws supporting the right to bear arms for self-defense?

Claims of non-partisanship aside, there is no doubt these anti-gun volunteers will NOT be working to turn out the vote of hard-working, rural, gun-owning, flag-waving, Second Amendment loving Ohioans.

What are YOU doing on Election Day? Voting is key, but this year, it is not enough. Call a pro-CCW candidate's campaign and volunteer. Ask how you can help them get out the vote.

Make the commitment to get every one of your freedom-loving friends to the polls, because 30,000 out-of-state gun grabbers will be trying to get your gun-hating enemies there.
