How chasing the ''gun guy'' image is hurting Kerry in swing states
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 10/22/2004 - 16:21.By Chad D. Baus
Since the Democrat party has based its entire hate-Bush campaign on Michael Moore conspiracy theories, I would like to offer up one more theory for them to chew on:
The Clintonistas John Kerry hired in September to rescue his campaign want Hillary to run in '08, and they are using the gun issue to sabotage John Kerry in swing states.
Though some Democrats have no trouble believing that President Bush is personally going to stand at the polls to turn away black voters, I am certain they will have trouble accepting my theory about the gun issue. So let me explain.
Before September, the Kerry campaign was winning on the gun issue. Liberal Democrats win on the gun issue by making it a non-issue, and that's just what it was before September.
With the 1994 Clinton Gun Ban sunset in view, campaign watchers marveled at Kerry's silence. The gun ban extremist wing of Kerry's base didn't fret, however, knowing that the campaign had implemented a strategy devised by the founder of Americans for Gun "Safety", billionaire Andrew McKelvey, to fool gun owners with kinder, gentler words for gun control.
It was working. Despite having published dozens of articles in members' magazines highlighting Kerry's scary history of voting against gun rights, Kayne Robinson, president of the National Rifle Association, recently told reporters that polls taken during the summer showed that "40 percent of gun owners thought Kerry was not very threatening on gun issues."
Youngstown Mayor McKelvey: John Kerry Can’t Camouflage His Record
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 10/22/2004 - 11:45.October 21, 2004
YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Democrat Youngstown Mayor George McKelvey today issued the following statement regarding John Kerry's hunt earlier this morning in Youngstown, Ohio:
“The new camouflage jacket that supposed ‘avid’ hunter John Kerry wore today can’t hide him from a voting record that has earned him the distinction of being named the most liberal member of the United States Senate.
“John Kerry can’t apply camouflage to his record, and it’s a record that is out of touch with all the mainstream values and priorities of the people of Ohio.
“As a Democrat who supports President Bush, I’m confident that the man I will be voting for in November doesn’t have to get dressed up and try and fake a set of values or a connection to Ohio voters.”
OFCC/ PAC represented at Niehaus Fundraiser in Senate District 14
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 10/22/2004 - 11:43.By Rick Jones, OFCC Senate District 14 Coordinator
A fundraiser was held at the Ye Olde Lantern Restaurant at Second and Court Streets in Portsmouth on October 19th for Rep. Tom Niehaus. Rep. Niehaus, a 2004 OFCC PAC endorsee, was the winner of the Republican primaries held earlier this year and is hoping to fill the seat of Ohio Senate Dist. 14, which is being vacated by term-limited Ohio Senate President Doug White.

The event was scheduled to being at 5:00 PM and end at 7:00 PM but, with the friendly demeanor of Rep. Niehaus, it started a bit earlier and lasted longer than scheduled.
There were more than 100 people that came and showed support with their enthusiasm, time, activities, and monetary efforts. Everyday-people from every walk of life were there to show their support.
One of those groups that has donated all of the preceding was the Ohioans For Concealed Carry Political Action Committee which was being represented by Rick Jones, the Ohioans For Concealed Carry Ohio Senate District 14 Coordinator (see photo).
Rep. Niehaus has shown a great deal of support for the new Ohio concealed carry law and hopes to be active in changes that need made in the next legislative session. Voters should elect him the next Senator in District 14.
What John Kerry did was not hunting - it was killing
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 10/22/2004 - 07:40.by Larry S. Moore
Of all John Kerry's flip-flops, Thursday's staged hunting trip in Ohio was certainly one of the biggest FLOPS. The effort to portray him as a "guy's guy" showed instead that John Kerry is still an elitist.
Most of us struggle somewhat to get quality private habitat to hunt. It takes sometimes years to have a relationship with a land owner for hunting access. Because of his status as a Senator and Presidential pretender he comes into a state where he knows very few people and probably no hunters or rural landowners prior to the campaign and get premium land to hunt.
align="right">
John Kerry did no homework for his hunting trip - no landowner contacts - no scouting trips - no dog training. He probably did not even buy his own camo jacket. He probably could not recite the laws governing his hunt - which means he has not read his Ohio Hunting Guide or the federal migratory bird rules.
John Kerry is portraying the exact problems with hunting that Humane Society of the Unites States and PETA protest. He is a poster boy for their objections that hunters just walk out into the fields and shoot things.
What John Kerry did is not hunting - it was killing. John Kerry did not develop landowner relations. Where were the photos of Kerry thanking the family for permitting him the opportunity to hunt on their land? Where were the photos of John Kerry asking the farmer if he needs help with any chores or offering to share some of the rewards of the hunt? Then he says he is too lazy to carry his own game!
As a hunter, I have great respect and honor for the hunt, which is the game I take. That means carrying out my game, it means properly cleaning and preserving (freezing) the meat for later dining pleasure. Beyond hunting there is always reverence for the game - otherwise you don't hunt with me. There is always a special place for the dogs (in my case beagles) as my hunting partners.
John Kerry was out of sight of the photographers and kept that way until he returned. Did he shoot his geese? To me it is unethical for someone else to shoot part of your bag limit. Depending on circumstances, it could be illegal. Did John Kerry display the respect for the land by picking up his empty shotgun shells?
John Kerry is making every photo opportunity to convenience us that he is one of the regular guys and loves to hunt. John Kerry is missing his mark with true sportsmen and women of Ohio who understand that hunting is about a lot more than waltzing into a state and killing a couple of animals in sacrifice for your political ambitions.
For me hunting is about family and friends. I hunt with my children. I am a volunteer Ohio Hunter Education instructor. I have worked hard to teach proper respect and ethics for our young people as they go out and being hunting. My daughter is featured on the front cover of the Ohio Hunter Education Manual. I have a photo when I was about 7 years old with my cousin and his beagle. He taught me about beagles and passed down a family tradition. We gather around a table of venison, rabbit or pheasant and praise God for the bounties of this land and the opportunities we have to share our hunting experiences as family. That is what true sportsmen understand.
Far from showing he is a regular guy, Kerry is showing Ohioans he just does not understand these things. His trips afield for photo opportunities are as staged and fake as when he threw someone else's medals away! John Kerry is not connecting with true sportsmen.

Cheney mocks 'October disguise' in assailing Kerry on gun rights
Vice President Dick Cheney wasn't the one with a shotgun yesterday, but that didn't stop him from firing some political blasts at presidential hopeful John Kerry during a visit to Sylvania.
"The senator who gets a grade of 'F' from the National Rifle Association went hunting this morning."
But the new camouflage jacket that Mr. Kerry wore during his hunting trip near Youngstown was nothing more than another part of his "October disguise" to hide his record, including votes against gun owner rights, the vice president told a crowd of about 2,000.
"My fellow sportsmen, this cover-up isn't going to work because you and I know the Second Amendment is more than just a photo opportunity," he said.
Mr. Cheney said Kerry is "a man who will say and do anything if he thinks it will advance his cause."

Disgruntled employee attacks workers; exits, reloads, returns
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 10/22/2004 - 07:24.The St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting that a disgruntled former employee opened fire with a shotgun on defenseless workers at Beltservice Corp. in a St. Louis suburb yesterday. As many as 130 workers milled about as the gunman opened fire, the paper reported
The gunman fired at least five times before going outside to a van to reload. He walked inside to fire again, notes the paper.
After a seven-hour standoff with police, the gunman surrendered without incident Thursday night.
What goes unquestioned in the news reports is why the criminal had so much time to leave, reload, and return. Clearly, it is only because no employees were armed (most likely by company policy) that the criminal had time to exit the building, reload, return and fire again.
"It could have been a massive tragedy," says the writer, "one that has become too familiar after violent incidents at office buildings and schools across the country."
In the end Thursday, only one worker was shot. Jake Lewman, 61, suffered what was called a superficial wound in the upper right hip, authorities said.
"It is remarkable," Beltservice Corp. Chairman Dick Engelsmann told reporters. That more people were not injured or killed "we're very thankful for that. We're lucky, I guess."
One can only hope that this company will learn from its mistakes, and allow employees to exercise their right to self-defense. Counting on "luck" to protect defenseless employees again is a very irresponsible option.

Letter to OFCC: A real choice for gun owners (?)

I am a visitor to your site daily. I usually like reading the stories and the armed citizen articles. I have one large problem with it though. that problem is the pro- Bush anti- Kerry rhetoric. The truth of the matter is that they both favor more gun control and have equally bad records on gun control. there is a candidate that shares your views though and his name is Michael Badnarik. He is the Libertarian candidate for President. he supports the repeal of all unconstitutional gun control laws. He promotes freedom and personal responsibility. The other candidates tell you that voting for a third party is wasting your vote. That is a lie! Of course they will tell you that so you will vote for them even if they are the lesser of two evils. Voting for the lesser of two evil is still a vote for evil. If a 3rd party candidate gets enough votes and support, the other parties will have to take notice. Please dont take my word for it. Go to http://www.lp.org/ and http://badnarik.org/ and decide for yourself.
Please vote your conscience this election day. But dont vote for a candidate you dont believe in or dont respect just because they have the best chance of winning. I believe it is time to make a stand and vote for more liberty not less.
Please consider printing this on your website immediately. Gve your members all of their choices this election day.
Sincerely,
Roy Martin
Chad Baus' Response:
Roy -
Conservatives "voting their conscience" (for Perot) gave us 8 years of Bill Clinton and 10 years of the failed assault weapons ban. It gave us Waco and Elian and, yes, Monica. Is it worth risking this and worse again? Absolutely not!
The place to try and grow a third party safely is at the bottom, not the top. That way, losing a race or two (or most, or all) along the way won't result in the kind of damage to our country that the '92 loss did.
You said: "The truth of the matter is that they both favor more gun control and have equally bad records on gun control."
Not even close.
When governor of Texas, George W. Bush signed that state's concealed carry law. Countless lives have been saved.
As President, Bush's Attorney General has agreed the Second Amendment is an individual right - something Clinton's AG Janet Reno argued against (!), and certainly something a Kerry AG (Charles Schumer?) will oppose as well.
As President, Bush has told the UN in no uncertain terms that they may have NO say in our Constitutionally recognized, God-given right to bear arms.
I realize Bush's vocal support for AWB renewal was misguided, but that's a far cry from making him "equally bad" as Kerry.
John Kerry has a 20 year history of votes to ban guns, ammunition, and to raise taxes on both. Kerry has, time and again, forwarded the idea that the UN needs to approve virtually everything America does. Think that will stop when they come asking for our guns again? Not a chance.
I don't want to overwhelm our website readers with the national race, but the truth is, it's a slow time for Ohio CHL news because of the national race. Also, as has been discussed here frequently, this race is of utmost importance, because John Kerry and the UN could quickly trump our constitutional and states' rights, which we have worked so hard to protect.
11 more days. Make your vote count.
