Subject: Glockner--No guns signs
Dear Rick,
I am responding to your e-mail concerning the NO GUNS signs and law.
After much study of the law and discussion with our employees and our insurance company, we have decided to pull all our signs from all our buildings at all locations.
Looking back at when the law was enacted, I guess I reacted to the Ohio Auto Dealers Association who recommended we post the signs. And we assumed our insurance company would want us to post the signs for contingent liability reasons. I was wrong!!! They, in fact, have NO position one way or the other.
I, myself, am an avid outdoorsman, as are many of my family. I personally own [many] guns. So, I am pro gun.
I guess we over-reacted to this new law and did not do our homework. I do appreciate your views and the information you sent me. It was very helpful. If we offended you, we are sorry. Hopefully we can earn an opportunity to do business with you one of these days.
Thank you for making us aware and for expressing your opinion.
Sincerely,
Andy Glockner
According to the website of the Ohio Auto Dealers Association, Mr. Glockner is the OADA's "inaugural Chairman of the Board". We look forward to the potential for him to use his influence to get the OADA to back off of their "recommendations", which he freely admits were an "over-reaction" to the new law.
Mr. Glockner's kind and thoughtful email couldn't stand in more stark contrast to that of certain other car dealers. Click on the "Read More..." link below for more.
Ohio Democrats backing College Rapist and Carjacker Protection bills
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 07/16/2004 - 14:53.After years of spewing anti-gun rhetoric in efforts to oppose concealed carry reform in Ohio, the state's most liberal Democrats are suddenly very interested in backing concealed carry legislation at the Statehouse.
In early May, we revealed that Sen. Ray Miller (D-15) had begun shopping for co-sponsors for a bill that seeks to repeal Section 9 of House Bill 12 from the books and expand the ban on concealed carry to all government owned/operated parks, swimming pools, golf courses, and parking lots.
Although largely unsuccessful at gaining co-sponsors (just four other Democrat Senators signed on), Miller, who consistently voted against concealed carry reform legislation, introduced the bill (SB243) at the request of the City of Columbus (Mayor Michael Coleman).
Since then, House Democrats have lined up two of their own anti-self-defense bills.
