Plain Dealer's Brent Larkin on HB347 editorial: 'We were wrong'
Submitted by cbaus on Sun, 10/16/2005 - 23:05.After waiting more than three weeks, the Cleveland Plain Dealer editorial board finally chose Saturday October 15 to publish a correction to glaring falsehoods repeated in a September 29 editorial about how House Bill 347, Rep. Jim Aslanides' sweeping firearms law reform bill, would amend the media access loophole.
What they did not do, however, is retract their opposition to HB347, even though the premise for which they opposed it was completely false...
NOTE: NRANews.com's Cam & Company took up this topic Monday on its live broadcast. Please listen in each day with show host Cam Edwards on NRANews.com.
What follows is an email from Plain Dealer editorial page editor in which he admits "we were wrong", and read for a link to the partial correction that has now been published.
When I first contacted editorial page editor Brent Larkin about the errors, he told me "if there is an error in the story, I will address it."
But ten issues (and two phone calls) later, when there was still no correction, I decided to try again through a different medium. Following is my email to Larkin:

Leave it to Toledo to validate the Nazis...
Submitted by cbaus on Sun, 10/16/2005 - 07:33.By Ken Hanson
Dear me, what are the folks in Toledo thinking?
A month or so ago police confiscated a handgun from a citizen who had gone out and obtained an emergency concealed carry license to protect himself from gangs in his neighborhood. The TPD reasoning? Send them to community mediation, let everyone "cool off." Keep the gun in lockdown for a few months, since the gun obviously caused all the initial problems.
Well, things began to spiral downward from there. This ultimately resulted with the Neo-Nazi party, with no permission or support from the CHL wronged in the first place, marching in Toledo yesterday. When I first read about it, I assumed the Nazis were marching in support of the Toledo police department. Confiscating firearms from innocent civilians is a trademark of Nazis.
Apparently I was mistaken. The same crack team that alertly arrested and charged a CHL-holder for lawfully carrying a handgun in Toledo's nirvana-like parks decided that they could control the situation by just reasoning with everyone involved. What resulted is an indictment of everyone involved.
