UDF bans CHL - Tri-state customers told to stay out when armed
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 04/01/2005 - 05:10.This week, we began receiving reports of new "no-guns" signs being posted in Cincinnati-area United Dairy Farmers convenience stores.
As it was the first block-posting by a business chain in close to a year (there are nearly 200 UDF stores in the Tri-state area), and as UDF is an Ohio-based business which has been doing business in other CCW states for years with no signs, Business Education Coordinator Joe Eaton was quick to investigate. His report follows:
- I contacted UDF on March 30, and spoke to Jennifer in Consumer Relations at 800-833-9911. Jennifer clarified that all UDF locations will be posted in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. She claimed this decision was made in May of 2004 but signs were not printed or available until now.

Criminals foil background checks: Firearms stolen from home
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 04/01/2005 - 05:05.The Lancaster Eagle Gazette is reporting that someone broke into a home in the 4600 block of Pine Grove Road, Amanda between 3 p.m. Monday and 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Stolen items included six rifles and shotguns along with a 9 mm pistol, a holster, and 320 rounds of reloaded ammunition. The value of the loss was not estimated.
It is highly typical in cases like these that the thief knows what he is looking for, knows where to find it, and knows when the firearms owner will be away from the home. This type of research takes time and effort. Thanks to news media abuse of the Media Access Loophole, the potential for knowing where to find firearms to steal is made much, much easier.

Op-Ed: Women's self-defense class can save life
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 04/01/2005 - 05:00.March 31, 2005
Cincinnati Enquirer
Your voice: Susan Morgan
I recently participated in a self-defense class for women offered by the Cincinnati police. It all started when I asked if they could recommend a course. They responded by asking if I would recruit some friends to be "guinea pigs" for a pilot program.
Four course hours later I, and several of my friends, knew what to do, mentally and physically, if attacked.
The op-ed, which can be read in its entirety here, does not say whether or not Cincinnati police mentioned an Ohio Concealed Handgun License among these women's self-defense options, but no good self-defense class offered in this state should omit it.
