FLASH – Possible vote on HB347 next week!
Submitted by jirvine on Tue, 11/21/2006 - 13:51.NRA is reporting, and other sources have confirmed that HB347 may receive a vote in committee next Wednesday, November 29.
HB347 passed the Ohio House in March and was assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Criminal Justice, Chaired by Senator Jim Jordan, a strong friend to gun owners.
There will be changes made in the Senate. Before it can become law, it will need to pass out of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee, pass the full Senate, and then, if it’s a good bill, receive another vote by the full House. The bill would then head to Governor Taft for his signature or veto.
We will have updates on the progress of HB347 as they become available.
Senate Committee Chair signals he'll bend to Taft on media access loophole fix
Submitted by cbaus on Tue, 11/21/2006 - 01:10.The Canton Repository recently published an article detailing the various opposition testimony to HB9 heard by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Civil Justice.
According to the newspaper, Committee Chairman David Goodman has signaled that instead of siding with the 93 House Representatives who listened to their constituents and voted for the bill, which contains a provision that would close media access to some CHL personal information, he is instead more concerned about the gun ban lobby and a veto threat from Ohio's unpopular, lame-duck governor.

Headline: Ohio gears for deer-gun season
Submitted by cbaus on Tue, 11/21/2006 - 01:05.The Canton Repository is reporting on this year’s popular deer-gun season, which opens statewide Nov. 27, offering all hunters expanded opportunities to harvest a whitetail. As noted previously on this website, the upcoming season will include an extra weekend and the new apprentice license program.
From the story:
- The deer-gun season will run through Dec. 3, from one half-hour before sunrise to sunset each day. For the first time in Ohio, hunters will have the opportunity to hunt an extra weekend, which will be Dec. 16-17. Apprentice hunting licenses will allow new hunters, both adults and youths, to sample the experience under the supervision of a licensed adult, before completing a hunter education course.
An estimated 600,000 white-tailed deer are accounted for before the gun season starts. The Division of Wildlife anticipates a kill of more than 115,000 deer during the nine-day season.
The story goes on to note that the white-tailed deer is the most popular game animal in Ohio, frequently pursued by generations of hunters. Deer hunting contributes an estimated $266 million to the state’s economy each year and helps support thousands of jobs.
