No Movement on HB347

Buckeye Firearms Association has learned that there will be no activity on HB347 today. It was expected that a substitute bill would be amended and accepted in today's Criminal Justice Committee hearing. Look for this action to occur at a committee hearing in the near future.

Anti-Gun Columbus Dispatch Rears Ugly Head - Shows True Colors Again

At last. After months of hard work by Ohio's Legislators and many Committee hearings on HB 347, the concealed carry reform bill sponsored by Representative Jim Aslanides (R-94) of Coschocton, the Columbus Dispatch has entered the arena with it's usual liberal, anti-gun blathering by printing one of the most uninformed editorials to date on this subject.

The rabid anti-gun bias is prevalent from the start of this editorial. Couple that with the obvious lack of understanding of the issues at hand and the fact that they have deemed themselves the self-appointed authority as well and we once again have a mainstream media outlet misleading their readers with half truths and idiocy.

The Editorial "Aiming to please whom?" can be found in it's entirety here.

Black Wing Shooting Center Earns Prestigious 5-Star Rating

The Range Report (produced by the National Shooting Sports Foundation for club officers and range operators) is reporting that two ranges have been recognized with the National Association of Shooting Ranges (NASR) Five-Star Rating. The ranges are South Carolina's Palmetto State Shooting Centers and Ohio's Black Wing Shooting Center. Black Wing joins a prestigious group of shooting centers and ranges. There are only 11 centers in the United States which have received the NASR Five-Star Rating.

Buckeye Firearms Association's Larry Moore, who had the opportunity to shoot at Black Wing last fall during a fund raising event for Senate President Harris, said, "I was extremely impressed with the facilities and personnel at Black Wing. As a trapshooter and side-by-side vintage shooter, I've had the opportunity to shoot at ranges in several states.

Black Wing is a premier shooting sports facility. The facility includes a pro-shop, state of the art indoor ranges for pistol and rifle, 22 caliber up to 50 bmg as well as well laid out outdoor trap ranges and sporting clays stands. There is also a restaurant area with ample seating.

I was most impressed with the safety briefings and the coaching new or novice shooters received at the Senate President Harris Honor Shoot from their knowledgeable personnel. The staff did everything possible to ensure that we had an enjoyable and safe shooting experience. I am looking forward to returning to Black Wing this spring to compete in some registered trap events. Congratulations to Rex Gore on this outstanding rating."

Op-Ed: Don't Blame Hunters

February 16, 2006
New York Post

By By John R. Lott, Jr. and Joni Ogle

With all the fall-out over Dick Cheney accidentally peppering his friend with birdshot, few will probably ever hear that hunting with guns is not a particularly dangerous sport. Nor will they hear any mention that hunting can help save people's lives by helping control animal populations.

A Nexis search of news stories found that in all the avalanche of news coverage none of the national television news broadcasts on Sunday and Monday mentioned gun-hunters' safety record. Only three of the 76 newspaper and wire stories through Monday had mentioned anything about these accidents being rare.

Professor John R. Lott Jr. points out in his book, The Bias Against Guns that there is either a concerted effort to shape the gun debate by the establishment media or gross negligence on their part. Either way the fact remains that the establishment media through their one-sided reporting of the gun issue is making the news instead of simply reporting it.

Right now, supporters who donate $50 or more to the Buckeye Firearms Association will receive a complimentary AUTOGRAPHED copy of Dr. Lott's latest book, The Bias Against Guns. Supplies are limited.
