Shooting at Cleveland's Hopkins Airport

By Jim Irvine

Yesterday morning, a man shot a police officer at the Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Today I talked with fellow officers at the airport and I’m happy to report that the officer underwent surgery this morning and is doing well. He is expected to make a full recovery. That is great news.

The airport is posted “no guns” which of course did nothing to prevent this shooting. Signs (or regulations) that prohibit law abiding citizens from having a firearm to defend life are no more effective at preventing mayhem as laws that say, “no murder.” Criminals do not abide by the “rules of society.” That is why we call them criminals.

Peirce for Governor Campaign to Reach Signature Goal

Press Conference
Ohio Secretary of State Offices
180 Broad Street, Columbus,
11:00 a.m. Monday, May 1

The Peirce for Governor Campaign announced today that it has obtained more than 9,000 signatures and will have close to 11,000 by the filing deadline of Monday, May 1. This should be enough to ensure the 5,000 valid signatures required on a nominating petition for an independent gubernatorial candidate. Bill Peirce and his running mate Mark Noble are
running as independents because the Libertarian Party of Ohio, which endorses their candidacy, does not have ballot status.

AR15Armory.com Invites Buckeye Firearms Into The Club House

by Linda Walker

Perusing the Internet these days, the searcher can come up with any subject from A to Z, and then some. That also applies to talk forums. Many forums are extremely informative, usually loosely based around a particular subject, but then some forums can take on a life of their own, and sometimes that life becomes rather raunchy and no longer a good place to visit.

There's a new forum on the block that promises to be a good, clean place to visit. Buckeye Firearms Columbus volunteer Neil Watson started AR15Armory.com forum on Sept. 16, and it has rocketed to success with over 67,000 posts and nearly 900 members.

Buckeye Firearms endorses Ted Strickland in Democratic Primary for Governor

By Jim Irvine

Buckeye Firearms Association is proud to endorse Ted Strickland for Governor of Ohio in the May 2 Democratic primary election.

Mr. Strickland grew up hunting in Appalachian Ohio. As a child he learned that guns are tools to put food on the table. As an adult he understands that concealed carry to protect your family is equally important.

Congressmen Strickland has been a consistent defender of our Second Amendment rights in Washington D.C. and deserves Democrats' support in the primary on May 2, 2006.

SD31 Republican Primary Clarification

Contrary to a recent campaign mailing by Representative Ron Hood, he is not currently endorsed by Buckeye Firearms Association in the upcoming May 2nd Republican primary for Ohio 31st Senate District.

Hood's campaign letter specifically states "This record has earned me the endorsement of the...Buckeye Firearms Association..."

As a grassroots organization run by volunteers, Buckeye Firearms is rabidly defensive of the integrity of its endorsement process. In the May 2, 2006 Republican Primary election, Tim Schaffer has our sole endorsement for Senator in the 31st district.

Buckeye Firearms has an obligation to defend candidates that have earned our endorsement, and our endorsed candidate the 31st Senate District race is Representative Tim Schaffer (R-5).

Buckeye Firearms Assn introduces personalized 2006 Primary Voter Guide Generator

Buckeye Firearms Association is proud to announce the launch of our 2006 Primary Voter Guide Generator, which will enable pro-gun voters to receive a personalized Voter Guide via email.

"Typically, a voter guide will contain a great deal of information that does not pertain to an individual voter," said Southwest Ohio Chair Joe Eaton. "Therefore in the past it has been up to the voter to educate themselves on which districts (state House & Senate, Congressional, Court of Appeals, etc.) they reside in before being able to determine which endorsees they will see on their ballot. The personalized 2006 Primary Voter Guide Generator will aide the pro-gun voter by emailing them a personalized guide that contains only information as specific to their area as possible."

Buckeye Firearms Association encourages pro-gun voters to make plans to go to the polls Tuesday, May 2, or to vote absentee.

The Rink Report: 2nd Congressional District GOP Primary

By Collin Rink

In this 2nd Edition of The Rink Report, we are examining the 2nd
Congressional District Republican Primary race, which is just days
away. This race is being fought between Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, and
Bob McEwen. Buckeye Firearms Association has endorsed Congresswoman
Schmidt.

Challenger Bob McEwen, a Congressman from the Sixth Congressional
District from 1981 until the start of 1993 seems to be in a lot of
trouble in this boistrous race. According to a Survey USA poll released
recently, McEwen trails Congresswoman Schmidt by 23%. This follows a
generally bad period for McEwen, after the Cincinnati Enquirer raised
questions on Easter Sunday about McEwen's possibly illegal practice of
living in Virginia while voting in Ohio.

Plain Dealer Endorses Ferris

By Jim Irvine

The Cleveland Plain Dealer
has endorsed Barbara Anne Ferris for the 10th US Congressional District.

Barbara Anne Ferris
will be holding a press conference on Monday, May 1 at the Old St. Michaels Church near Slavic village. Following her speech, Buckeye Firearms Association Chairman Jim Irvine will join other organizations in vocalizing their support and endorsement of Ferris. If you live in the Cleveland area you are encouraged to come

From the Plain Dealer Story:

It is extremely unusual for a newspaper to withdraw its endorsement from an incumbent it has supported for years - the more so when that officeholder is a congressman with an international reputation, and the race is a primary election that he almost certainly will win.

Nonetheless, that is what The Plain Dealer does today. In the Democratic contest between five-term Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich and his challenger, nonprofit executive Barbara Anne Ferris, this page endorses Ferris as the Democrat more in tune with the community, its needs and its future.

Rasmussen poll shows Dem's growing lead over GOP gov candidates

Rasmussenreports.com has released its latest survey of the race for Ohio governor, which shows the likely Democratic nominee, Congressman Ted Strickland, maintaining hefty and growing leads over two potential Republican opponents.

From the report:

Strickland leads Republican frontrunner Ken Blackwell, 52% to 35%. In March he led Secretary of State Blackwell 50% to 40%. Strickland now leads Republican Attorney General Jim Petro 51% to 31%. Last month his lead was 47% to 34%.

Whether matched against Blackwell or Petro, Strickland is currently able to attract 25% support from GOP voters.

So far this year, our polling has shown no major hiccups for Strickland. In January, he was ahead of Blackwell and Petro by four and five points. Since then, Strickland has steadily gained ground since then against both potential competitors.

...Strickland is viewed favorably by 54% of the electorate and unfavorably by 26%. Blackwell is viewed favorably by 40%, unfavorably by 46%. Petro is viewed favorably by 38%, unfavorably by 44%.

The report goes on to say that because the unpopular current resident, Republican Governor Bob Taft, is caught up in scandal (of which voters will be reminded in August when a friend of Taft's goes on trial), and because the state's economy has been floundering from the loss of manufacturing jobs, voters seem to be ready for a change.

Fortunately gun owners, all three candidates vocally express a strong support for the Second Amendment, the Right to Bear Arms for Self-Defense, and for hunting and sport-shooting.
