Today Ohio’s Sixth District Court of Appeals ruled against Bruce Beatty and the arguments of Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro. The court ruled that Ohio’s concealed carry law (HB12) is not a general law and that local ordnances can prevail.

…we find that there is no general law in this state with which the city's Rule 18 is in conflict. As such, Rule 18 is enforceable within the city.

This ruling may allow and even encourage any political entity in the Sixth District to pass draconian rules restricting and prohibiting a person from exercising their right to carry a concealed weapon.

Buckeye Firearms is pleased to announce the endorsement of Joy Padgett for the 18th U.S. Congressional district. A special election is scheduled for September 14 to determine who will be the republican candidate on the ballot this November. The special election is needed due to Republican Bob Ney withdrawing after winning the Spring GOP primary.

Many Ohio gun owners know Representative Jim Aslanides as a leading advocate for gun rights; however, many Ohio gun owners are surprised to find out that Rep. Aslanides is working to finish what Padgett started a decade ago. Aslanides has described Padgett as “the mother of gun rights legislation in Ohio.”

In the 1995-96 session, concealed carry reform was introduced in the Ohio Senate by Joe Vukovich. Then State Representative Joy Padgett worked with Sen. Vukovich by leading the effort to pass that good legislation in the Ohio House.

In 1997 Padgett introduced concealed carry reform in the House. She introduced similar legislation again in 1999. While these early attempts failed, Padgett continued to build a valuable base of bi-partisan support in the legislature that would eventually coalesce to change Ohio’s law with the passage of H.B. 12 in 2004.

This session Senator Joy Padgett has continued her quest to see your gun rights restored with her tireless work on H.B.347, including the introduction of companion legislation, S.B. 252 in the Senate. Though gun owners would have liked this legislation to pass many months ago, it is vital to understand that Sen. Padgett is in no way part of the problems we are facing in the Senate.
