LTE: Assault on 'assault' weapons unsound
Submitted by cbaus on Tue, 03/20/2007 - 00:15.March 19, 2007
Zanesville Times-Recorder
The recent article by Dan Thomasson maligning the National Rifle Association is a new low, even for him. It appears that old Dan has finally lost control of his senses or is lying in his teeth. Take your pick.
The nation's police chiefs have serious problems all right, but so called assault weapons are seldom used in crimes of any kind. The infamous ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) Bureau defines an assault weapon as a full auto or selective fire weapon. This type of weapon requires a special permit from the federal government and an FBI background check and several $100 bills. The notion that our cops are outgunned by people with assault rifles is just so much bull manure.

D.C.’s Gun Ban Is Itself Banned!
Submitted by cchumita on Tue, 03/20/2007 - 00:10.By John Longenecker
As you may have heard the week of March 9th, 2007, the Court Of Appeals tossed out the Washington, D.C. gun ban and declared it unconstitutional.
That’s right – Unconstitutional. It may go to the Supreme Court, but for now, it’s ruled by an Appeal Courts and it has legal significance. There is a 30-day stay of execution, I believe, and D.C. Mare Fenty has announced that his city intends to defy the court ruling and continue to enforce the ban.
Nation of laws, my eye. Don’t ever trust a liberal who ever says again that we are a nation of laws.
There is no such thing as sensible gun laws.
This week’s commentary centers around the reaction of the drones who want gun bans in place. But why?
D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty said in response to the announcement that he was outraged. He reportedly said, “It flies in the face of laws that have helped decrease gun violence in the District of Columbia.”
It has done no such thing. Gun control paves the way for one-sided aggression, as your city has the highest violence crime rate in the nation, and one-sided violence has grown because the victim is defenseless against beatings, knifings, rapes, robberies, murders and many gun and non-gun attacks, ban or no ban. As I have said, officials do not get an opinion on a civil right, they get their instructions, and oath of office binds the official to defending what the court just announced. You have no wiggle room or latitude for creative governance on this subject. No official does.
None.

The Uninvited Ombudsman Report - No. 27
Submitted by jirvine on Tue, 03/20/2007 - 00:05.Taken from this week’s “Page Nine” Alan Korwin’s “The uninvited Ombudsman Report”
1- Utah's Muslim Murderer
The lamestream media told you:
An off-duty police officer halted a shooting rampage in a Salt Lake City mall, when 18-year-old Sulejmen Talovic, wearing a trenchcoat, opened fire on shoppers for no apparent reason. Officer Ken Hammond, having lunch nearby, heard the shots and rushed to return fire and hold the gunman at bay until reinforcements arrived. Who fired the shot that stopped the criminal was unknown at press time, Paul Foy reports for The Associated Press.
"He was such a good boy. I don't know what happened," said his aunt in a TV interview. Five people were murdered in the attack, and others wounded.
The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:
This homicidal maniac was identified by WorldNetDaily, a highly respected web news source, as a Muslim refugee from Bosnia, a fact somehow omitted in the lengthy AP story. Although gunfire was required to stop the murderer, as it routinely is, apparently none of the victims were armed.
Anti-gun-rights advocates are expected to use the Muslim's murderous spree to call for gun-control efforts aimed at people, like you and I, who didn't do anything.
