It's time for another Plain Dealer Pulitzer: Self-defense commentary continues

More to be learned from latest Regina Brett columns

By Chad D. Baus

In 2004, ultra-liberal Cleveland Plain Dealer columnist Connie Schultz (wife of Sherrod Brown, the recently-elected anti-gun U.S. Senator from Ohio) was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for commentary that, among other things, bashed Ohio CHL-holders as "Dirty Harry wannabe's".

Schultz wrote the following commentary just days after Ohio concealed carry became law:

It seems to me the ones who need protecting aren't the folks who tuck a Glock under their armpit every time they step out to walk the dog or buy a quart of milk. I hate to make assumptions here, but I can't help thinking that folks who carry concealed weapons aren't the ones quoting Gandhi. And if I'm in a store that's about to be robbed, the last place I want to be is between a robber and the Dirty Harry wannabe who's decided to take the perp down.

Ms. Schultz has been notably mute in the days and weeks since an armed 15 year-old attacked a CHL-holder in his front yard. However, I would like to suggest that another Plain Dealer columnist is deserving of a Pulitzer for her commentary on bearing arms for self-defense in Ohio.

Answering The Brady Center...Again: Academic Freedom and Guns DO Mix

By John Longenecker

Because Freedom and Guns mix. They mix because they are the lethal force which backs citizen authority.

Speaking of academic, the non-profit Brady Center hasn't learned about Freedom, if their May 3rd, 2007 release is any indication. The Center interferes with American Freedom as it claims to operate in the public interest making the argument against Freedom.

Mentioning in its press release bio that the Center is a non-profit, so-called Reports from that organization have amounted, in my opinion anyway, to what the IRS Exempt Organizations Publications refer to as unsupported opinion in requirement of non-profits; the Service warns against such opinion for EO's claiming to educate in the public interest.

The Center's May 3rd 'Report' said that academic freedom and guns don't mix, and described the NRA's efforts to decriminalize carrying weapons on campus and in workplace as forcing people. Ladies and gentlemen of America: look who's talking.

Talk about forcing people, anti-gun tax exempt organizations have succeeded in persuading officials to disarm students, workers and visitors - forcing them to disarm - to the point that mass murderers soon get the message as to which locales are entirely defenseless. Murderers find them to be as advertised. They are known as Victim Disarmament Zones.

The Brady Center has no compunction when it comes to forcing people to choose to carry under pain of punishment or to risk dying at the hands of some nut who shares their philosophy of disarmament and defenselessness. Killers do not share the value of Freedom and Liberty.
