"The NRA vs. Obama" - Hollywood stars join fight for gun rights
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 23:15.By A.W.R. Hawkins
With the 2008 presidential election upon us, the National Rifle Association is making their case against Barack Obama. They unflinchingly describe him as “the most anti-gun presidential candidate in American history” and have dedicated large sums of money to exposing his anti-gun agenda.
An in-depth look at his record justifies their position. Not only is Obama the economic socialist Rush Limbaugh has said he is, he is also a gun-banning associate of 1960s radicals who cannot wait to take away one of America’s greatest freedoms - the right to keep and bear arms.

Op-Ed: Say goodbye to hunting rights
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 23:10.By Stephen Griffin
As I have mentioned on occasion in my columns, I dearly love to go hunting. I have rarely been happier than the 30 years of spending that week following Thanksgiving living in a tent and sleeping on the ground with my dad in our Gallia County deer camp.
We arrived home after the last day of the season and much to my mother's chagrin, all grubby and smelly, wearing the dirtiest clothes imaginable, but smiling like a Cheshire cat. While I have missed it terribly since Pop's passing eight years ago, I firmly believe that those days are in great danger of vanishing forever - not only for me, but for all of you as well.

Op-ed: Gun Control - Common Sense or Common Cause?
Submitted by cchumita on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 23:05.By Howard Nemerov
Sen. Barack Obama said recently he is “a strong supporter of the Second Amendment” and will not try take Americans’ guns away if elected.
“I believe it’s an individual right,” he said in an interview following a speech at [University of Nevada, Reno]. “Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear from an Obama Administration.”
But, Obama said, he is for “some common sense gun safety laws.” He said that means keeping weapons out of the hands of criminals, the mentally ill and children.
“And we need a system that makes sure we can trace guns back to the original owners and dealers.”[1]
What Obama isn’t saying is that in order to “trace guns to the original owners” we must enact national gun owner licensing and registration for each gun purchased. Such policies have both historical and future significance.

ALERT: ODOT notifies Buckeye Firearms Assoc. rest stop “NO GUNS” signs to come down
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 10:24.Buckeye Firearms Association has just received word from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) that the NO GUNS signs at state rest stops have been ordered removed. In the telephone call to Buckeye Firearms Association Leader and NRA Election Volunteer Coordinator Rick Jones, ODOT stated that their legal department has confirmed with multiple state departments that the signs are to be removed.
This action is in response to passage and implementation of Senate Bill 184, which included several major fixes to Ohio's concealed handgun licensure law, including a change designed to allow patrons of rest stops to use the facilities without having to disarm.
The law took effect September 3, but concealed handgun licensees (CHL’s) continued to report seeing the problematic signs at highway rest stops.

Buckeye Firearms Assoc. ramps up response to Ohio Democrats' anti-gun attack with hard-hitting mailer
Submitted by cbaus on Wed, 10/29/2008 - 23:10.Last week, Buckeye Firearms Association exposed Chairman Chris Redfern and the Ohio Democratic Party financing of two deceptive anti-gun mailers attacking State Representative Ross McGregor's vote for Ohio's Castle Doctrine bill, SB184.

We pointed out that 75 percent of the Ohio General Assembly voted in favor of this law, which ensures Ohioans' right to defend themselves and their children from violent criminals - criminals who don't care about "No Guns" signs. And we pointed out that a majority of Ohio Democratic Party's own caucus members in the House, including Chairman Redfern himself, voted for this popular legislation, and that a supportive Democrat governor, Ted Strickland, enthusiastically signed it into law.
On Sunday, we took our message to the voters in McGregor's House District 72, in the form of an advertisement in Clark County's Springfield News-Sun.
This week, thousands of voters in House District 72 are receiving two gun-related mailers - including one from Buckeye Firearms Association that sets the record straight.

The most important vote you haven't thought about
Submitted by cbaus on Wed, 10/29/2008 - 23:05.By Jim Irvine
Everyone is focused on John McCain and Barack Obama for President of the United States. But there is another vote that is just as important – your vote for the two Ohio Supreme Court Justice positions.
Supreme Court Justices Evelyn Stratton and Maureen O’Connor are up for election, and need your help. Most people do not know anything about these candidates. In fact, the vast majority of people do not even know who they are. Judges are always tough votes to cast, because people do not know the candidates like other offices, and because on the ballot voters don't even have a party affiliation to go by.
You need to make sure your friends and family know about this race, and the candidates that need support, because no matter what laws are passed in the legislature, they mean nothing without courts that uphold the law.

Report: Gun Sales Thriving In Uncertain Times
Submitted by cbaus on Tue, 10/28/2008 - 23:10.The Washington Post is reporting that while Americans have cut back on buying cars, furniture and clothes in a tough economy, there's one consumer item that's still enjoying healthy sales: guns.
According to state and federal data, purchases of firearms and ammunition have risen 8 to 10 percent this year. The story reports many dealers, buyers and experts attribute the increase in part to concerns about the economy and fears that if Barack Obama wins the presidency, he will join with fellow Democrats in Congress to enact new gun controls.

Op-Ed: Gun Rights an Important Component of 2008 Elections
Submitted by cbaus on Tue, 10/28/2008 - 23:05.By Joseph P. Tartaro
With just [days] left in the longest presidential campaign in American history, the road to the White House appears to run through fewer than 10 states.
These battlegrounds, many of them in either the Rust Belt or the West, could hold the key to whether Sen. Barack Obama or Sen. John McCain becomes the nation’s 44th president. And the outcomes there could turn in part on the impact of the campaign’s two female superstars: Sen. Hillary Clinton, who narrowly lost the Democratic nomination to Obama, and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain’s surprise Republican running mate.
Palin’s emergence seems to have changed some fundamental dynamics in the race. In some cases, she may have won votes for McCain; in other cases she may have turned people off, not necessarily by what she said or did, but because of what establishment media commentators and the newer bloggers may have said about her.
What is especially curious about the 2008 presidential race is that it some ways it reflects back to the 1948 race, except that the party vectors are reversed. In 1948, with bad poll numbers and a Democratic Party split three ways by Strom Thurmond and Henry Wallace, every major media outlet and poll predicted a victory for the Republican candidate, New York Gov. Thomas E. Dewey. In fact, some newspapers went so far as to publish papers that claimed Dewy won that election.

A month in the life of a southern Ohio Buckeye Firearms Association volunteer Leader
Submitted by cbaus on Mon, 10/27/2008 - 23:10.By Rick Jones
Seems it all started out when Senator Obama was made the nominee for President by the National Democratic Party. After hearing this I decided I needed to do something to PREVENT Mr. Obama from being elected President.
I’ve already been the assigned National Rifle Association Election Volunteer Coordinator (EVC) for the Ohio 6th Congressional District and I’ve already been involved with the Buckeye Firearms Association for many years...so what more could I do to lose more sleep?
Well...here is my story and what I’ve done and what I’ve helped others to do to help defeat Mr. Obama.
