McCain receives warm reception at USSA's 12th Annual Save Our Heritage Rally
Submitted by cbaus on Tue, 09/30/2008 - 00:10.Several members of Buckeye Firearms Association joined hunters, anglers and trappers from across the state this past weekend at the United States Sportsman’s Alliance's 12th Annual "Save Our Heritage Rally" held in Columbus on September 27th.
The event, as always, was a well-organized flurry of activity, as guns, hunting trips and other outdoors accessories were auctioned off and given away throughout the evening. The grand prize was 20 acres of hunting ground in south-eastern Ohio!
The keynote speaker for the evening was Senator John McCain. Making good on his campaign motto, 'Country First', McCain chose not to attend the event in person, having stayed in Washington D.C. to work through the weekend on the ongoing issues with the Wall Street financial mess. The GOP presidential candidate addressed the more than 1,300 rally attendees via satellite feed.
Unlike the recent address President Bush delivered by satellite to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, which came off as awkward due to the President's apparent inability to hear and react to applause in real-time, Sen. McCain was clearly able to hear the crowd react to his speech. And react they did, especially at an early mention of his choice for Vice President, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Faith & Joy Ferkel making headlines as Ohio concealed handgun license instructors
Submitted by cbaus on Tue, 09/30/2008 - 00:05.
Mother & daughter team Joy & Faith Ferkel are making headlines in Ohio and across the nation as concealed handgun license (CHL) instructors.
The Fremont News-Messenger recently featured photos of the pair, decked out in Second Amendment Sisters t-shirts, explaining pistol mechanics and proper loading techniques to students during one of their women's-only training sessions for the concealed and carry law in Ohio.
The two will be also featured in the November/December issue of Women & Guns magazine.
Meanwhile in Tiffin, OH, the local newspaper is reporting that women are "staying aware" as investigations continue into recent attacks by one or more violent sexual predators. In the same issue, the paper is featuring a local CHL instructor who reports he's seen an increase in the number of female students.

'Nobody knows Obama's record on guns better than I do,' says Illinois gun rights activist
Submitted by cbaus on Mon, 09/29/2008 - 00:10.SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Sept. 24 -- The following is a press release by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):
"One of the most blatant lies ever to come from a politician's mouth," is how the ISRA is characterizing a recent statement by U.S. Senator Barack Obama. Speaking in the latest issue of "Field & Stream," Obama claims that Illinois sportsmen know him as an advocate for their rights. On the contrary, Obama's voting record while a state senator clearly indicates that he has nothing but contempt for the law-abiding firearm owner.
"Any sportsman who counts Barack Obama as one of his friends is seriously confused," said ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. "Throughout his tenure in the Illinois Senate, Obama served as one of the most loyal foot soldiers in Mayor Daley's campaign to abolish civilian firearm ownership. While a state senator, Obama voted for legislation that would ban and forcibly confiscate nearly every shotgun, target rifle and hunting rifle in the state. Obama also voted for bills that would ration the number of firearms a law-abiding citizen could own, yet give a pass to the violent thugs who roam our streets. And, inexplicably, Obama voted four times against legislation that would allow citizens to use firearms to defend their homes and families."

The Uninvited Ombudsman Report, No. 53

The lamestream media told you:
There are many good ideas for cutting “gun deaths,” according to a Freakonomics quorum run by The New York Times http://tinyurl.com/5fn62u. “Let’s put aside for a moment the standard discussions about the right to bear arms,” quotes the piece, which goes on to discuss novel ideas -- but not the demographic reality that 80-90% of gun deaths (omitting suicide) are related to the War on Some Drugs, making them actually war deaths.
Among the suggestions: rewards for snitching on illegal possession, increased parental involvement, garnishing wages to pay victims, elect gun-death-reduction politicians, tipping the Supreme Court away from its current pro-rights stance, and other ideas.
The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

Hating on the First AND Second Amendments: Obama campaign threatens to sue over NRA ads
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 09/26/2008 - 06:48.Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign has sent threatening letters to news agencies in Pennsylvania and Ohio to stop airing ads exposing his anti-gun record sponsored by the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF).
The kicker? NRA-PVF's Ohio’s ads have not yet begun running.
“Barack Obama and his campaign are terrified of the truth,” declared Chris W. Cox, Chairman of NRA-PVF. “Sen. Obama's statements and support for restricting access to firearms, raising taxes on guns and ammunition and voting against the use of firearms for self-defense in the home are a matter of public record. NRA-PVF will make sure that everyone knows of Obama's abysmal record on guns and hunting.”

Chicago’s Sad Summer; Barack Obama and Mayor Daley's continued ignorance
Submitted by cbaus on Fri, 09/26/2008 - 00:10.- Illinois Sen. Barack Obama on gun control, June 26, 2008.
By Gerard Valentino
"What exactly do you think is working in Chicago," Sen. Obama?
Sadly, the hometown we share reached another deadly milestone this summer due to the decision to disarm law-abiding citizens.
CBS2chicago.com reported recently that 123 people were killed over the summer in Chicago, compared with 65 soldiers killed in Iraq.
From the story:
In May, cbs2chicago.com began tracking city shootings and posting them on Google maps. Information compiled from our reporters, wire service reports and the Chicago Police Major Incidents log indicated that 123 people were shot and killed throughout the city between the start of Memorial Day weekend on May 26, and the end of Labor Day on Sept. 1.
According to the Defense Department, 65 soldiers were killed in combat in Iraq. About the same number were killed in Afghanistan over that same period.
In the same time period, an estimated 245 people were shot and wounded in the city.
To say it’s become easy to mock the Chicago leadership because of their willingness to cling to gun control and their bitterness over the city’s continuing increase in violent crime is an understatement. How they can push for more gun control when it failed citywide is breathtaking in its arrogance. Although the city will most likely drop the fight to keep the ban of handgun ownership, it is unlikely that Mayor Daley will ever willingly allow concealed carry in HIS city. Likewise, we know that Barack Obama opposes concealed carry - he confirmed it to a Pittsburgh newspaper this last April.
When the city you claim to rule is more deadly for inhabitants than a war zone in Iraq, and you still claim the gun control laws are "working", something is very, very wrong.

BOOK REVIEW: The Great New Orleans Gun Grab (Descent into Anarchy)
Submitted by jirvine on Fri, 09/26/2008 - 00:05.By Jim Irvine
As I started reading “The Great New Orleans Gun Grab, Descent into Anarchy”, by Gordon Hutchinson and Todd Masson, I wondered how I could relate the destruction of Hurricane Katrina and the dire conditions that followed to residents of Ohio and beyond. As I finished the book, many people in Ohio and beyond were getting ready to start day five without power.
Hurricane Ike ravaged Texas, and then headed northeast. Places far from the coast were dealt hurricane force winds that dropped trees on cars, houses, roads and power lines. Damaged houses leaked. Drinking water had to be treated. Showers were cold. Batteries ran dead. There were runs on generators and other “survival equipment.” Those that prepared ahead of time were more comfortable than those who did not.
While, “...Gun Grab” is a book about New Orleans and what happened there, it is also a book about what could happen to each of us, if we are not eternally vigilant. Disaster comes in many forms and can strike any of us at any time with little or no warning. There are lessons both political (Katrina legislation) and personal (be prepared) in understanding what happened.
If “mainstream” media did their job, you would know the whole story and reading this book would not be necessary. Sadly, such is not the case. As much as I knew about the atrocities in New Orleans, the book expounded on what I knew, and demonstrated why we must all work to make sure the aftermath of Katrina never happens again in the United States.

Clyde case yields first protections for gun owners
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 09/25/2008 - 00:15.On September 18, 2008 the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that R.C. 9.68 is valid, and that municipalities may not infringe on the broad statutory and constitutional right to carry firearms. Within a few days, this opinion saw application in courtrooms around the state.
Readers of this website are familiar with the story of Damon Wells, the young man in Cleveland who shot at thugs in self-defense last year, killing one. Subsequently, his house was vandalized by people mourning the thugs and his life has generally been turned upside down. Regina Brett with the Cleveland Plain Dealer did a nice series on the incident and the aftermath.
Unfortunately, the City of Cleveland is among those determined to make Damon’s life a continuing series of aggravations. After the thugs’ trial, Damon had to fight with Cleveland to obtain return of his gun. It was only through volunteer efforts of Buckeye Firearms Association that the Court eventually ordered Cleveland to return Damon’s gun. To add further insult to injury, the City of Cleveland recently charged Damon with possession of an unregistered handgun as a result of a traffic stop on a car in which he was a passenger.
You aren’t misreading. Damon, who has a CHL and who the Court ordered Cleveland to return a gun to, has been charged with possession of an unregistered handgun under Cleveland’s ordinances.

Ray Schoenke's American Hunters and Shooters Assoc. receives frigid reception in the Buckeye State
Submitted by cbaus on Thu, 09/25/2008 - 00:10.Ray Schoenke, president of fake gun group American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), received a cold reception from Ohioans during a swing through the state to campaign for former Joyce Foundation board member Barack Obama, and judging by a follow-up press release, he is still feeling the sting.
On Wednesday, September 17, Buckeye Firearms Association published a story detailing how AHSA and the AFL-CIO labor union had teamed up to try and convince rural gun owners (you know, the ones who Obama says are bitterly clinging to their guns) to prostitute the Second Amendment for a paycheck. That same day, Schoenke began a photo op tour through Ohio that would make goose hunting John Kerry proud.
According to the Lancaster Gazette, "Schoenke stopped in Clarksburg Wednesday to shoot a couple clay pigeons and talk about how the Second Amendment comes into play in the presidential campaign." While Clarksburg's Mid-State Gun Club may not have realized what Schoenke's photo op was truly all about until it was too late, word about AHSA began to spread quickly on Wednesday. Rumor is another gun club cancelled a second scheduled photo op when they learned who Schoenke really was.
