Republicans continue to serve wrong recipe when it comes to gun rights

By Jeff Knox

The Republican Party lost big in 2006 and lost even bigger in 2008. They didn't lose because of opposition to the war in Iraq. They didn't lose because of the floundering economy. They didn't even lose because of a "culture of corruption." Those were symptoms and side issues. The reason Republicans lost, and continue to lose, is because they have failed to keep their promises, live up to their stated beliefs, and they have provided little reason to their base a reason to get excited about keeping them in office.

From taxes to abortion to free trade to fiscal responsibility, Republicans have routinely betrayed the trust of important issue groups and constituencies. But no group betrayed, ignored, and taken for granted by Republicans more than gunowners.

This newspaper editor supports the Second Amendment and concealed carry

As a gun owner and a strong supporter of private gun ownership and gun rights, I have found it interesting that recent Telegram articles have reported citizens finding unwelcomed visitors in their homes and have greeted them with guns and have fired a few shots in their direction.

This, I think, is part of what the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States speaks to when it protects the rights of citizens to keep and bear arms. There are, of course, other reasons this right is important, but it seems to me that having firearms in the home is important when it comes to protecting you and yours.

It seems as if the criminal element is blossoming like spring flowers in the garden. As home invasions become more common, some way of protecting yourself seems, to me, to be important, even necessary.

There are some common-sense rules about gun ownership and responsible gun owners know the rules and take precautions against an unfortunate accident which still do occur. But lots of people are killed by common kitchen knives which never seem to come under the scrutiny of liberal do-gooders who seem to be focused on eliminating all the dangers in life.

As Obama plots a gun ban, our challenge is helping the next generation learn the truth

By Jim Shepherd

[Late last week], mainstream media was buzzing about how the President was "willing to consider" some limitations on firearms.

As my kids would say as they rolled their eyes "what-ever." Baloney is always baloney. This administration is all about limiting firearms ownership.

I could respect their positions if they didn't try camouflaging another attempt to put more controls on the average gun-owning, law-abiding American citizen.

This time, it's to help stabilize the political situation in Mexico?

Pardon me, but que?

The Uninvited Ombudsman Report, No. 62 - Centralized Gun-Registration Scheme

Taken from the most recent "Page Nine" Alan Korwin's "The Uninvited Ombudsman Report"

----------

1- Centralized Gun Registration

The lamestream media told you:

Nothing.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

Although not widely discussed publicly, the Bradys, in conjunction with new Obama officials, are working out the details of a new centralized gun registration scheme. It would avoid existing legal safeguards and allow the dangerous first step toward gun-confiscation. Currently, the federal government is explicitly banned by law from centralized gun registrations, historically the precursor to confiscations.

The plan involves having all retail gun sales reported to and recorded by the gun's manufacturer. This would defeat the ban against central government registration, while giving full access to the records to BATFE and FBI officials with little control of any kind. The unpaid burden this places on firearms makers and dealers would be overlooked. Tucked deeply in the Brady's proposal to Obama, "ATF should require dealers to report details to manufacturers about all guns sold. This action can be taken without additional statutory authority." Headline: "Clinton targets assault weapons"

"Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear...I think people can take me at my word."
- President-elect Barack Obama, just weeks before his inauguration.

By Chad D. Baus

No, that isn't a headline from a decade ago. Thanks to 52.9% of American voters, including some supposedly pro-gun individuals who bought into the line that a former Joyce Foundation board member could be pro-Second Amendment, Barack Obama is now our President, Eric Holder is now our Attorney General, and Hillary Clinton is now our Secretary of State.

And according to the BBC, Clinton is singing the same song as Holder, promising a gun ban.

The Obama Administration is Not Dealing Straight With Us on Mexico's Gun Problem

You and I Can't Buy the Guns Mexican Cartels Own

By Ralph Weller

Let's set things straight right up front. Yes, some guns are being smuggled into Mexico from the U.S. Most are handguns. But, handguns are being illegally trafficked from state to state and from the U.S. to Canada. It should come as no surprise that guns are smuggled into Mexico. But, the problem being portrayed by the U.S. media and our government is not as it seems.

You see, Mexico doesn't allow ownership of most firearms, so ordinary Mexican people seeking self-protection will find a way to get them into Mexico. As for the drug cartels operating in the border towns along the U.S., they have other sources for their weapons and have become the prime supplier within Mexico.

Who ordered the troops' descent onto mainstreet America?

By Jim Shepherd

When an lone gunman went on a murder spree in the sleepy little town of Samson, Alabama on March 10, it didn't take long for the 5-officer police department to be overwhelmed.

When the enormity of the act started to sink in, the town put out the call for help from all the police departments in the area.

Now, an inquiry is underway to determine just who called for - or authorized - twenty two active-duty military police officers from Fort Rucker, Alabama who patrolled the streets and helped out with civilian police duties.

Firearms ownership: One of the safest activities there is

The United Sportsmen of Florida have compiled two fact sheets that provide a wealth of insight into the safety of gun ownership, hunting and shooting.

Citing data sources including the National Center for Health Statistics, the National Safety Council, the Bureau of the Census, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and firearms industry reports, the 2009 Fact Sheet on Firearms Accidents proves that despite a doubling of our country's population since 1930, and a quintupling in the number of privately owned firearms, the annual number of accidental firearms deaths has decreased 75%. In fact, the fatal firearm accident rate has decreased 92% since the all-time high recorded in 1904.
