American gun control laws: A shoestring is a gun, but a revolver is not?

When a New York City police officer caught a .32 caliber slug in his ribs last week, Mayor Mike Bloomberg was quick to question how the career criminal and convicted felon was able to obtain the gun. I'm afraid that the question is going to lead to attempts at broader restrictions on more items in New York and elsewhere because it's possible that the gun involved in the shooting might not be a firearm.

That might not make much sense, but firearms laws generally don't.

Report shows growth of Buckeye Firearms Association

Thanks to your generous support and involvement, Buckeye Firearms Association continues to grow in dollars, in people, and (as a result) in influence. Money and people equals power in politics – and you have contributed greatly this year, even in such harsh economic times. Your all-volunteer leaders at Buckeye Firearms Association continued to be humbled by the trust you put in us and motivated to keep up with your rising expectations.

The most anti-gun Presidential in our nation's history has demanded that we become more involved in Federal issues. Thanks to your support, we have been able to step up in an area where we used to be non-existent. This change is not a replacement for our involvement in Ohio; in fact we have continued to strengthen our leadership role on our home front.

For the first time in recent history we saw the Ohio legislature pass positive reforms for us before the first summer recess. Your voices are being heard by your legislature, and even those who are not "pro-gun" are at least gaining an understanding for why firearms rights are important to all of Ohio.
