Buckeye Firearms Volunteers Kickoff Election Homestretch

Are you engaged in a campaign?

This past Saturday, September 30, dozens of Buckeye Firearms Volunteers gathered in the Columbus area to stuff and address a mass mailing of this season’s voter guide. As you have seen from our previous coverage, a few key races are too close to call. In these tight races, the Ohio gun owner can be the deciding factor. Consequently, we timed our voter guide mailing with that of the first round of absentee voter ballots going out. As you may have previously seen on this website, this is the first election where any Ohio citizen, for any reason, may vote by mail. This is a fundamental shift in Ohio’s electoral landscape, as anyone can cast an absentee ballot. This type of mailing is very influential in absentee voter decision making.

The initial mailing is targeted at every single gun range, gun shop, firearm dealer, conservation and hunt club in the state of Ohio. The theory is that we need to inundate the places where gun owners gather with the voter guide. Please keep your eye open at your favorite store or range for the voter guide and inquire if they do not have them displayed by Wednesday. It is absolutely critical that we get this voter guide in the hands of as many shooters as possible. If your store does not have them posted, talk to them about it. They can download and print the voter guide from our web site, or you can print it for them. You can also email us store's contact information and we will send another guide, but your involvement, from a customer standpoint is important.

Your efforts will act as a cost free “force multiplier” for us. Many gun owners do not know the best candidate in each of the many races that will be on the November 7 ballot. Every race is important to the gun owner. This upcoming election may be decided by which candidates get their message in front of the absentee voters in the most effective and timely fashion.

As an aside, if you are willing to make phone calls for endorsed candidates to these absentee voters (commonly referred to as “absentee chasing”) please let us know immediately. Plenty of candidates are willing to make these lists available to volunteers, even if the volunteer is just making a handful of calls each night. This is an excellent opportunity to use up those cell phone minutes you have left over every month!

Get the word out, this upcoming election will be decided by who wins these absentee ballots in the next 3 weeks, not on Election Day. Work hard now so we can coast to victory on Election Day!
