Buckeyefirearms.org: Top Ten News Items of 2014

On average, we publish two articles a day and 10 to 12 articles a week. Over the years, we have published approximately 10,000 articles, covering elections, legislation, and all manner of events and information of interest to Second Amendment supporters.

As content editor for BuckeyeFirearms.org, it's always interesting to look back over the year to see which articles captured the most interest. So here are the top 10 news items on our site from 2014.

  1. Straight-walled cartridge rifles approved for hunting white-tailed deer in Ohio!
  2. Are you SURE your gun rights are not at risk?
  3. Seventy-two killed resisting gun confiscation in Boston
  4. ATF Rules Against SIG SAUER MPX
  5. Governor Kasich signs landmark firearms legislation into law
  6. ODNR Division of Wildlife announces pistol caliber rifles for deer hunting
  7. Headline: CCW instructors get jail for cutting class short
  8. California Forcing Guns Off the Market
  9. Zombie Apocalypse: The 3 Guns You'll Need to Survive
  10. Newspaper conglomerate Civitas Media discusses building nationwide database of CCW licensees

While progress on and passage of pro-gun rights legislation is always a popular topic (and this year was no different, with HB 234 taking a top ten spot), this is the first year that a hunting issue not only made the top ten. Not only did the approval of rules to allow the use of straight-walled cartridge rifles for deer hunting take two of the top ten spots, it was the most-read article on our website in 2014.

The second most-read article, provocatively titled "Are you SURE your gun rights are not at risk?," featured a video of 2016 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton discussing her belief that government must "rein in" gun owners.

Also claiming two spots were two more "off the wall" articles, including a piece recasts a centuries-old event that is widely regarded as marking the beginning of the American Revolutionary War: the military clashes at Lexington and Concord which took place between British troops and Massachusetts militia on April 18-19 in 1775, and one examining the top three guns one would need to survive a "zombie apocalypse."

As has been the case in past years, one of the top ten Buckeyefirearms.org articles made national news. "Newspaper conglomerate Civitas Media discusses building nationwide database of CCW licensees" exposed an internal email provided to Buckeye Firearms Association by a confidential source, revealing that the company, which owns some 88 newspapers across the country, was discussing the use of "public records act requests" to "build state-by-state databases that list those who have the right to carry" firearm licenses. The article went live on BuckeyeFirearms.org at 7:00AM. Less than 90 minutes later DailyCaller.com had picked it up. Less than two hours after that DrudgeReport.com added a link to the DailyCaller.com piece, and by 1:00PM I had been interviewed by Fox News reporter Josh Miller and the resulting article was posted as the top story at FoxNews.com. Later that same day I was taped for a segment with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly.

What articles and topics will claim the top ten spots in 2015? What articles will make national (or international) news? Only time will tell!
