Chicago mayor's armed guards catch escaped murder, but still prefers his subjects remain defenseless

By Gerard Valentino

Noted gun grabber and first rate hypocrite Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago was vacationing at his family's cottage in Michigan recently when one of his armed body guards caught an escaped murderer who was walking nearby. Daily, who accepts armed guards for himself while denying Chicagoans the right to carry a gun for self-defense, was relatively quiet about the incident.

Maybe, for once, he realized the hypocrisy in his policy to deny millions of Chicagoans the right to use a gun for self-defense while he cavorts about with heavily armed guards. Had Daley been the average Illinoisan vacationing in Michigan, instead of the escaped murderer being confronted with a gun, the thug would have been free to attack the family without fear.

Of course, we already know Daley's stance on the gun issue that follows the "it's ok for me but not for thee" school of thought that is also used by President Barack Obama, noted gun-grabbing U.S Senators Charles Schumer, Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer who all accept armed body guards while actively trying to deny honest citizens the right to bear arms.

How those people sleep at night is beyond comprehension, and their actions to accept armed body guards is the height of leftist hypocrisy. Of course, there are those on the left who take an enlightened view on the gun issue, like Oho Governor Ted Strickland, and understand people have the right to carry a gun for self-defense. Still, it is of little help to the millions of Americans who are attached every year after being denied the right to carry a gun by the likes of Mayor Daley and others of his misguided ilk.

What people don't realize is that choosing to accept armed body guards while denying honest people the right to carry a gun shows the true character of a person or politician. They are saying, in effect, that they are above the law and are more important than everyone else.

There are few sentiments that are as anti-American as believing the people who make up our government are more important than a person casting a vote.

We know that it is the job of our elected officials to see that the will of the people is conveyed through their votes and actions in their respective offices. Instead, politicians of Daley's misconceived mindset think they need to dictate policy to their constituents without regard for what the people really want.

There is little doubt that a concealed carry law in Illinois would be as successful as it's been everywhere else. Of course, Daley's never-ending quest for complete control of the city and its citizens would take a hit if the people had the right to carry a gun, and Daley is clearly unwilling to do the right thing for his citizens if it means giving up one iota of control.

He seems unmoved when he is asked if he thinks the citizens of Chicago are dumber or less responsible than the citizens of Dallas, Indianapolis, Columbus, Cleveland or even New York, where they are allowed to carry a gun for self defense. His lack of trust in the people he purports to represent is detestable and should offend all Chicagoans.

As someone who grew up there, I know that my upbringing taught me right from wrong and that I am as responsible as the person who grew up in Ohio, Indiana, Texas or Tennessee. It's a shame that Mayor Daley is either incapable or unwilling to see that he is directly responsible for the high murder rate in Chicago due to denying honest people the right to bear arms.

As time goes on and legal concealed carry proves to be a success in the 48 states that allow the citizenry to carry guns, the lack of acceptance by people like Mayor Daley put his motives in question. He can no longer claim that legal concealed carry is a threat to public safety or that it is a threat to law enforcement, so we are left to wonder about his true thoughts on the issue.

He won't accept requests for a public debate on the gun issue and won't even consider that more guns in the hands of honest people will make honest Chicagoans safer. He has taken the stance of an obstinate nine-year old who threatens to hold his breath unless he gets his way.

It's going to take a tragedy like the Luby's massacre to get Chicagoans to understand that their Mayor doesn't have the citizens' best interests in mind with his anti-gun policies. Of course, when such an attack takes place in Chicago, Mayor Daley immediately blames the availability of guns, not his policy to disarm the populace for the carnage.

Despite is ravings to the contrary, there is now enough evidence to show that mass shootings have a decidedly lower death toll when an armed victim fights back.

Even though the most recent incident further exposes Mayor Daley's hypocrisy, it is unlikely to change his backward view on guns which is shameful. We can only guess, he somehow deludes himself into thinking it is OK for to go around with armed guards while his people go about with the constant threat of being attacked by an armed thug.

But then, the nature of a hypocrite is to accept that they are so important that their actions are above reproach. Clearly, in his deluded mind, Daley has convinced himself of his own importance. He must have also convinced himself that his thoughts on the gun issue are so profound that all the evidence the proves him wrong is somehow faulty.

It's just a shame that millions of people in Illinois live in fear because he has such a high opinion of himself.
