Yet another mass murder in "gun free" zone, but media fails to take note

by Chad D. Baus

There is still much to be learned about the events that unfolded in that Aurora, CO Cinemark movie theatre early Friday morning, July 20, but as the media looks for answers, they are once again either missing or ignoring something that is consistent time and again with these multiple victim public shootings - they almost always happen in places where guns are banned.

From TheTruthAboutGuns.com:

"Headquartered in Plano, TX, Cinemark Holdings, Inc. is a leader in the motion picture exhibition industry with 459 theatres and 5,181 screens in the U.S. and Latin America as of March 31, 2012," their website reports. Cinemark owns the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, scene of last night's mass shooting. Cinemark doesn't allow anyone other than law enforcement officers to carry legal firearms in their theaters.

The articles goes on to cite examples of the company having been put on notice - years ago - that their "no-guns" policy would never stop a person intent on doing harm.

It's the same story, over and over and over again. This type of disgruntled person always seems to go where they know there are plenty of defenseless victims. Nothing about our country's many gun control laws, or the "no-guns" theater policy, kept these people safe.

As with similar attacks in the past, the media are focusing on where the murder got his guns, but aren't they seeing the forest for the trees - perhaps because they just don't want to. The biggest lesson that should be learned from such events is that gun control laws cannot and will not stop a determined person such as the Colorado murderer.

To wit, thus far, it appears that the many gun control laws already in place in this country were followed, but they still failed to stop the murderer from purchasing his guns, just as the Cinemark's "no-guns" policy failed to keep the murderer from bring his guns into the theater.

What such policies DO accomplish, of course, is steal away the civil and Constitutional rights of the movie-goers to defend themselves from such an egregious attack. Shame on them.
