Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From an air rifle championship at Camp Perry to destroying the "evil gun" myth, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

2/16/09: Erie Township, Ohio: Air Gun Marksmen Give Camp Perry Their Best Shots

From the article:

Josh Watson is one of more than 500 ace shooters who will descend upon Camp Perry during the next three weeks.

They aim to get to the national JROTC Air Rifle Championship at Fort Benning, Ga.

The competition is not over until February 28th, so you still have time to attend an event.

2/15/09: Bedford, Ohio: Protesters Say 11 Years Of Killing Deer Is Enough

From the article:

Deer culling brought dozens out to the Cleveland Metroparks on Sunday. Activists against the practice got together at the Bedford Reservation.

I guess the "activists" would rather have deer slowly starve to death or get hit by a car than for a hunter to quickly kill it. The hunter will use the deer food for himself or donate the meat to a foodbank.

2/15/09: New Philadelphia, Ohio: Man Uses Fake Bomb To Rob Check Cashing Store

From the article:

Officers said a man walked into the Advanced Check Cashing on Blue Bell NW with a grocery bag and a box connected to a cell phone. He said it was a bomb set to off in 15 minutes.

This incident shows that criminals will use whatever they can. Simply banning guns will not prevent guns, it will only disarm the victims.

2/14/09: Bellevue, Washington: Burglary Victim Drives Off In Thieves' Van

From the article:

The Seattle Times said the 32-year-old Rosario, who had been laid off from his job as a Washington Mutual manager, called 911 while he sneaked out of the house.

He saw a white van sitting in front of his house with the motor running and the keys in the ignition, and he got in and drove it to a friend's house

That is hilarious! I would have loved to see the faces of the burglars when they saw that their van was missing.

2/13/09: Beachwood, Ohio: Man Charged With Stalking Women At Area Mall

From the article:

Robin Jacobs, 45, is charged with menacing by stalking. Police said he engaged in a pattern of conduct at the mall over the last week that caused female shoppers to fear for their safety.

Police said he tampered with one of the shopper's vehicles by letting air out of a tire.

This is exactly why women should carry a handgun for protection. Women can become a victim of violent crime anywhere, even at a shopping mall in a city that is known for not having much crime.

2/12/09: Croton, New York: Gun Lobby Threatens Safety of America's Colleges and Universities, Says Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus

From the article:

The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus announced today that 35 colleges and universities in 16 states have signed onto a resolution opposing legislation that would allow students to possess and carry firearms on campus. The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus is a project of GunFreeKids.org, a New York based nonprofit issue advocacy organization.

The good news is that ONLY 35 colleges and universities have signed on. I wonder how many more college students and faculty have to die before they learn that gun bans only disarm the law-abiding.

2/3/08: Sandusky, Ohio: Firearms Safety Course Aims To Educate

From the article:

Guns are evil.

That's the myth Don Cole has been trying to dispel, one student at a time.

Instead, it's the person behind the weapon that matters, Cole said.

"That's what I'm trying to get people to understand," he said. "This is not the deadly item everybody thinks it is."

This is an old article, but it is still worth checking out.
