Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From a home invasion to an armed robbery in a gun free zone, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

12/12/08: Columbus, Ohio: Victim: You Break In My House, You're Going To Get That

From the article:

Jack, who did not want to be fully identified, said he was asleep when his 84-year-old mother-in-law, who suffers from Alzheimer's, opened the door for the three men.

After pushing her to the ground, one of the men kicked open the door to Jack's bedroom and demanded to know where he kept his money.

The victim rightfully defended the life of his mother and himself. I would hate to see what would have happened if he was not armed.

12/12/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Police: 8-Year-Old Shot While Playing 'Gangster'

From the article:

An 8-year-old boy was shot Friday morning by his brother. Police said Anthony Hicks was playing "gangster" with his 11-year-old brother at a home in the 7000 block of Montgomery in Cleveland at about 9:10 a.m.

Thankfully, it appears that the victim was not seriously hurt. This incident shows exactly why programs such as the NRA's "Eddie Eagle" should be taught in EVERY school.

12/12/08: Eden, North Carolina: NC Man Tells Police Cat Shot Him

From the article:

Rockingham County Sheriff's Department spokesman Dean Venable said Charlie Banks Busick, 24, told police that as he was sitting on a loveseat in his home shortly before 1:30 a.m., his cat jumped onto his Glock .45-caliber pistol, causing it to fire a round into his hip.

Busick later changed his story and admitted that as he was getting up from the loveseat, his thumb accidentally hit the trigger, causing the gun to fire, Venable said.

I still don't think that we are getting the real story. I would bet money that he was doing something stupid, like practicing his "quick draw" when he accidently shot himself.

12/11/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Store Clerk Shot In Head Dies

From the article:

A store clerk who was shot in the head Thursday night died at MetroHealth Medical Center on Saturday.

Store clerks have an extremely dangerous job. Unfortunately, the gun-grabbers would rather see this type of outcome instead of the victim fighting back with a gun and surviving.

12/10/08: Lorain County, Ohio: Lorain County To Lay Off 20 Deputies

From the article:

Normally there are 55 full-time deputies. Stammitti with the cutbacks his department will have to start prioritizing calls, possibly leaving some people waiting hours for assistance.

If you live in Lorain County, don't count on the police to protect you. There may not be any available to help you.

12/10/08: Akron, Ohio: Teen Robbed At Gunpoint Outside Local High School

From the article:

A student athlete was walking to his car outside Archbishop Hoban High School around 6 p.m. when he was approached by a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt. The suspect pulled a gun, stole $40 from the teen and then took off running.

How could this have happened in a school zone? I thought that they banned guns. Oh yea, criminals do not obey the law.
