Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From police recruits with records to an elderly woman being injured in a home invasion, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

10/13/08: Atlanta, Georgia: One-Third Of Ga. Officer Recruits Have Police Records

From the article:

More than one-third of recent Atlanta Police Academy graduates have been arrested or cited for a crime, according to a review of their job applications. The arrests ranged from minor offenses such as shoplifting to violent charges including assault. More than one-third of the officers had been rejected by other law enforcement agencies, and more than half of the recruits admitted using marijuana.

Are these the people the gun-grabbers expect us to rely on for our safety? I guess the citizens of Atlanta can no longer look up to their police officers or hold them to a higher standard.

10/13/08: Cleveland, Ohio: 3 Cleveland Cops Grab Top Honors At State Shooting Match

From the article:

The trio recently bagged the top awards at a state match in Zanesville, and they have dominated the competition in pistol shooting matches across Ohio and the country over the last three years.

Finally, a "gun" story in Cleveland that doesn't involve a law-abiding citizen's gun rights being trampled!

10/12/08: Oxford, Ohio: Miami University Student Says Men Tried To Kidnap Her

From the article:

It's not rare to see students walking at Miami University. That's what Oxford police said a 20-year-old student was doing around 4 a.m. Saturday when two men in a white van grabbed her from behind and tried to kidnap her on Beech Street.

Our college campuses are gun free zones. The only thing that preventing law-abiding citizens from carrying on campus does is make it safer for muggers, kidnappers, and other thugs.

10/11/08: Akron, Ohio: Experts Differ On Akron-Area Big Cat Sightings

From the article:

The debate is coming after some people reported seeing big cats in the Akron area in August and September.

This is just another reason to carry while hiking or camping.

10/8/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Men Point Rifle, Rob Gas Station

From the article:

The men entered the gas station, located at 4402 Lorain Ave., and pointed a rifle at the employees. Police said they then ran behind the register and took the money out of the cash register.

Another violent crime in the city of Cleveland. It appears that the city is too busy harrassing legal gun owners instead trying to stop real crime.

10/8/08: Brownstown Township, Michigan: Police: Woman, 87, Beaten By Two Men

From the article:

Police in Brownstown Township are searching for two people who viciously attacked an 87-year-old grandmother, reported WXYZ, NewsChannel5's Detroit sister station.

Officers said the suspects kicked down the woman's door when she wouldn't let them in.

A firearm is a great equalizer for the elderly. This incident may have had a happy ending if the elderly victim was armed.
