Second Amendment supporters weigh heavy in Ohio Primary Election

Governor:
For the first time in anyone's memory, Ohio gun owners are going to have a strong pro-gun supporter at the top of both sides of the ticket in November. Both Republican Ken Blackwell and Democrat Ted Strickland were endorsed by Buckeye Firearms Association in their respective primaries, and both men won their respective primaries by double-digits.

Treasurer of State:
In what is no doubt the upset of the election, Buckeye Firearms Association-endorsee Sandra O'Brien won the Republican primary race for state Treasurer. In its coverage of the upset, the Columbus Dispatch notes that O’Brien, a former teacher serving her third term as county auditor, touted her support of gun rights in contrast to Bradley’s position. This races proves that grassroots activism can overcome a lot when you have a good candidate.

Attorney General:
In the Attorney General's race this November, voters will chose between Democrat Marc Dann, a Buckeye Firearms Association endorsee, and anti-self-defense candidate Betty Montgomery.

U.S. Congress:
In U.S. Congressional races, Buckeye Firearms Association-endorsees Jean Schmidt (CD02) and Jim Jordan (CD04) won their Republican primaries. Another strong pro-gun candidate, Chuck Blasdell, will represent the GOP for CD06 this November.

U.S. Senate:
In the GOP primary for U.S. Senate, nearly 30% of Republicans took the advice of this political action committee and voted "anybody but DeWine", but in the end, incumbency and worries of a Democrat takeover of the Senate in November won the day for the anti-gun DeWine.

Summary:
Buckeye Firearms Association-endorsees won most of the primary contests in which the PAC endorsed. Others were lost narrowly, and should be a future encouragement to supporters about how important an hour or two of volunteer time for candidates can be. In one House race, there was only a difference of 10 votes. In another, just 90 votes. Every vote counts, and every hour you can give to a pro-gun candidate counts.

Thanks to pro-gun voters in Ohio, a greater number of pro-gun candidates will appear on the ballot this November.
