Blackwing Event with Senate President Harris – Fun and Informative

By Larry S. Moore

Friday was a beautiful Ohio fall day. The afternoon brightened with some sunshine that quickly warmed the shooting fields at Blackwing. It was a perfect day for shooting. Blackwing is a first-class shooting facility and full service pro-shop located just outside Delaware Ohio. If you have not been there and are in the central Ohio area, it is worth the trip. The occasion for the trip was a casual meeting with Senate President Bill Harris followed by an opportunity to break a few clay targets. The day was a wonderful success on both counts.

Senate President Harris first relaxed with a wonderful lunch in the Blackwing clubhouse. The discussion covered a wide range of topics not limited to just politics. It was my first opportunity to meet the Senate President outside the Ohio Statehouse. Senate President Harris quickly put his guests at ease. He graciously answered questions concerning the Ohio Senate, his outlook for Ohio, firearms, and other legislation. After lunch, he offered a few brief comments.

Senate President Bill Harris concentrated on the State Issues on the November 8 ballot. His comments stressed the importance of these issues to the future of Ohio. President Harris said, “Issues 2, 3, 4, and 5 do not provide a basis for good government in Ohio. When you place those kinds of technical requirements into the Ohio Constitution it creates all kinds of problems. The elected public officials serve all Ohioans. We do not need appointed boards placed between the Ohio voters and the operation of Ohio government.” For more information on State Issues 2 through 5 click here.

When asked about pending concealed carry reform legislation, and specifically HB 347, Senator Harris responded that the Senate will certainly look at any legislation that passes the Ohio House. Senator Harris agreed that changes are needed in the bill but did not offer comments as to the nature of what changes he will support at this time, preferring instead to wait on legislation from the Ohio House.

Anytime there is a local event with your state legislators, whether Ohio House or Senate, it is a primary opportunity to meet your legislators. It is a time to hear first hand what is happening in the Ohio General Assembly without a third party to interpret the statements for you. Senate President Harris, like most of our Ohio legislators, is very knowledgeable on the issues and the facts. He was very willing to share those views with his constituents. He also asked for feedback and information on those issues important to us.
