Bob Latta Endorsed for Congressional 5th District

By Larry S. Moore

Bob Latta has earned the endorsement of Buckeye Firearms Association for his long pro-gun and pro-sportsmen voting record in the Ohio General Assembly. Latta is currently in a special election race in the 5th Congressional District, running to complete the unexpired term of the late Rep. Paul Gillmor. The special election will be held on Tuesday December 11.

Every gun owner, hunter and sportsmen in the 5th District needs to get to the polls and support Latta in his bid for Congress.

I’ve known and worked with Bob Latta on number of issues over many years in Ohio. Latta was key to protecting the wildlife fund (our money from the sales of hunting/, fishing, trapping licenses and permits) from being raided under a Taft budget proposal. Latta stood strong for Ohio’s sportsmen against this effort. With the support of sportsmen, the fund was protected.

Latta recently sponsored HB238 to provide more adequate restitution in poaching cases and to get tough on those who would steal our legal opportunities to pursue trophy game in Ohio. “Hunting, fishing and other wildlife pursuits contribute billions of dollars into Ohio’s economy each year, and this bill will ensure that our state will continue to have plenty of trophy-class animals,” Latta said. “Poaching is a serious crime in our state, and these new restitution values will give the Division of Wildlife additional tools to deter the unlawful taking of animals.”

Mike Budzik, now retired as Chief of the Division of Wildlife, described Latta as one of the best friends sportsmen have in Ohio legislature. I’ve enjoyed several opportunities to fish with Bob Latta at the annual Fish Ohio Day at Lake Erie (sponsored by the Lake Erie Charter Boat Captains and the Ottawa Regional Visitors Convention Bureau). I also attended the opening ceremonies of the NRA National Matches at Camp Perry last summer. Latta was there representing Ohio and his district in the opening ceremonies. He was also there as a NRA member and as a shooting competitor, although by his admission, one not likely to post any record scores.

Bob Latta has served on the House Criminal Justice committee where he helped pass Ohio’s concealed carry law as well as improvements to that law and statewide preemption.

Bob Latta has a solid NRA “A” rating and his record has earned the endorsement of Buckeye Firearms Association. Whether you prefer shotguns, rifles or pistols, you have better laws today because of Bob Latta.

I personally urge all sportsmen/gun owners in the 5th Congressional District to get out the vote for Bob Latta on December 11.

STEVE BUEHRER CALLS ON CITIZENS TO VOTE IN SPECIAL ELECTION

State Senator Steve Buehrer today reissued his call to
people across Northern Ohio to get to the
polls and vote in the special election to be held on December 11th. The following
comments may be attributed to
Senator Buehrer.

"I urge people to get to the polls and vote on Tuesday,
December 11th. It is
important that we elect someone to represent the views and values of this area
like Paul Gillmor did so well."

"I still believe that the Republican party is our best hope
to bring progress to our state and nation. My own view is that economic prosperity
for our region should be the
primary objective in Washington and Columbus. Bob Latta has a better record on these
issues. I hope we do not let
liberal special interest groups, with different agendas, decide who will
represent us."
