Ohio CHL permits down thanks to permitless carry laws

According to 2024 statistics reported to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, county sheriffs issued 14,440 new licenses (down 7.3% from 2023) and 59,112 renewals (down 21.2%). Changes to state law went into effect in June 2022 that allowed qualifying Ohioans to carry a concealed handgun without a permit while also preserving the permitting system.

U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) on Feb. 27 reintroduced the Second Amendment for Every Registrable (SAFER) Voter Act, which would lower the age from 21 to 18 to purchase a handgun from a federal firearms licensee.

Tenth Circuit ignores SCOTUS, rejects challenge to federal gun ban

On Feb. 11, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit rejected a challenge to the federal lifetime prohibition on nonviolent felons possessing firearms, despite the U.S. Supreme Court's 2022 NYSRPA v. Bruen ruling to the contrary.

Sailor serving 20 years in prison for legal semi-auto collectibles

In the early 1980s, several firearm firms released semi-automatic firearms that fired from an open bolt, which were never subject to the National Firearm Act. Former U.S. Navy sailor Patrick Tate Adamiak owned five of these legal firearms. Now he's in prison for 20 years.
