Headline: Cleveland man shot dead after breaking into ex-girlfriend's home

Cleveland.com is reporting that police say Cleveland man was shot dead after he kicked in the door to his ex-girlfriend's apartment and choked her.

The attack happened about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night on Elk Avenue near East 105thStreet.

The medical examiner identified the man as 28-year-old Cedric Grier.

Police said Grier broke into the home and confronted his ex-girlfriend and another man inside the home.

Grier began destroying things inside the apartment and then choked his ex-girlfriend until she lost consciousness, police spokeswoman Det. Jennifer Ciaccia said.

Grier charged at the other man, who then shot him in the chest, Ciaccia said.

According to the article, the attacker died at the scene. No charges have been filed.

Under Ohio's Castle Doctrine law, if someone unlawfully enters or attempts to enter an occupied home or temporary habitation, or occupied car, citizens have an initial presumption that they may act in self defense, and will not be second-guessed by the State.
