Letter to the Editor: "Rob Portman clearly the better choice"

Editor's Note: The following letter to the editor of The Dayton Daily News, written by Buckeye Firearms Association Region Leader Larry S. Moore, was published on October 19, 2010.

To the Editor:

The Dayton Daily News endorsement of Lee Fisher was not any surprise. Rob Portman is our family's choice and clearly the best choice for Ohio.

I was part of the recent Outdoor Writers of Ohio interviews with candidates at the U.S. Sportsmen Alliance Ohio Rally; DDN reporter Jim Morris was also on the panel.

Fisher never responded to the invitation to participate with the outdoor writers. Portman attended the event, spoke with the more than 600 attendees at the banquet and answered all the outdoor writers' questions.

Portman easily presented his views on subjects ranging from invasive species and the Asian carp threatening the Great Lakes; Grand Lake St. Mary's algae bloom; the Second Amendment; jobs and the environment; conservation; and alternative energy solutions, including clean-coal technology, wind, solar and nuclear power.

I've not heard from Fisher on anything except the Second Amendment, where he has been a long-time opponent of freedom and supported any gun-control scheme that was introduced.

Portman knows how to get things done in Washington. He's crossed Ohio listening to families, small businesses, sportsmen and the entire spectrum of our population.

He has put his vision for Ohio jobs into a plan. He answered the outdoor writers’ questions with the confidence of a person who knows who he is and where he stands.

Portman has solid Ohio values and a vision for our future. Ohio needs the experience, vision and values he will take to the U.S. Senate. I'm proud to know and support him.
