The Second Amendment isn’t about hunting...or is it???

By Larry S. Moore I hear the phrase "The Second Amendment isn't about hunting" repeated in various comments, articles, websites and blogs. It is being repeated so often that is has become an accepted fact. I'm more tired of hearing this than I was the old Wendy's commercial, "Where's the beef?" (okay I am dating myself). Some days I've heard it so many times that I wonder why I bother to be...

Sovereignty 101: Why the Second Amendment is absolute (the short version)

By John Longenecker As I have posted over the years, the Founders of this country defeated abuse of process as much as they defeated an army and a single person as the Sovereign. They learned from misery and tyranny what NOT to do. One thing was within their power, and that was to make certain things absolute. All they need do was declare it at the nation's inception, and they did; It rests in...

Toledo residents continue trend of gun buying in wake of police layoffs

By Chad D. Baus When word of significant cuts to the Toledo police force first came out, one senior police officer issued the following recommendation to city residents: "Buy guns. Invest in precious metals: lead, gun power and brass." After the layoffs took effect, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner admitted the reason why this was such good advice: "Violent crimes, shootings, are not ever prevented by the...

Headline: More women buying and carrying handguns

Cincinnati's WKRC (the tri-state area's CBS affiliate) is reporting that an unprecedented number of women are taking their protection into their own hands by getting a gun. According to a report by Local 12 Reporter Liz Bonis, "gun stores are seeing more women customers than anyone can remember. Many women are also getting permits to carry a concealed weapon." The news report documents some of...

Attorney General announces First Quarter 2009 CHL statistics

Demand is soaring for concealed carry licenses in Ohio By Jim Irvine Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray (D) has released the concealed handgun license (CHL) statistics for the first quarter of 2009. The demand for concealed carry licenses has been torrid. It appears that a lot of new gun owners are not content to leave their weapon locked up at home; they want to carry it for self defense. The...

Obama's Supreme Court nomination is a slap at the Second Amendment

BELLEVUE, WA – The nomination of Second Circuit Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace retiring Justice David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court is a slap at gun rights and the Second Amendment, the Second Amendment Foundation said today. Judge Sotomayor, a New York native, ruled on a Second Circuit Appeals Court panel that the Second Amendment is not a fundamental right and does not apply to the...

Does exercising your rights mean you have something to hide?

By Gerard Valentino We have reached a new low when it comes to the Federal government's overzealous attempts to fight crime. According to a recent news story, the FBI and police in Westerville, Ohio are going to try and enforce a ban on wearing a hood, hat, sunglasses or use of a cell phone inside local banks. According to a quote attributed to the local police, would be bank robbers will be easy...

Months later, Ohio journalist's report continues to educate viewers on the dangers of "gun-free" zones

By Chad D. Baus As we reported earlier this month, more Americans than ever oppose new government efforts to regulate guns, in spite of the best efforts of the media propaganda machine's anti-gun bias. There is also growing evidence that the years of pro-gun advocates' warnings about the danger of declaring spaces to be "gun free" zones (i.e. infringing on citizens' Second Amendment rights) is...

Memorial Day 2009 - Remembering Those Who Gave All to Defend Our Rights

By Jim Irvine We are often thanked for all we do to secure firearms rights in Ohio, but this Memorial Day, it's important to remember all those who have come before us, and won all of the big battles. It is only through their sacrifice and perseverance that we are able to fight today's battles. While it's easy to get caught up in the moment of your own struggles, our lives as we know them would...

Exposed: Humane Society of the United States Fundraising Scandal

Townhall.com - When you hear the words "Humane Society," what's the first thing that comes to mind? Is it a pet shelter where families can adopt unwanted dogs and cats? Or is it a super-rich animal rights lobbying group that runs absolutely no pet shelters , and gives less than 4 percent of its $100 million budget to those who do? We thought so. Meet the Humane Society of the United States. This...

Democrats' "No Fly No Buy" bill is all about NY politics

By Jim Irvine Newsday reported recently that New York Representatives Carolyn McCarthy, Steve Israel, and Carolyn Maloney, all Democrats, called a press conference to promote a new bill aimed at law-abiding gun owners. McCarthy's "No fly no buy Act" would prohibit anyone who is on the "no fly" list from purchasing firearms. The bill seems to be a political tool, rather than a serious attempt to...

By Chad D. Baus While sky-high gun and ammo sales, and comments from Obama cabinet officials advocating new gun bans continue to dominate media coverage, a couple of pieces of legislation are being held up in Congress due to the attachment of pro-gun amendments. Earlier in the Spring, when Democrats pushed a bill which sought to give the District of Columbia congressional representation, pro-gun...

NRA hits high note with Annual Meetings attendees

By Jim Shepherd Cautiously optimistic might be an overly-conservative description of the throngs of people who pushed fire marshals to their very limits at the NRA's Annual Meetings this weekend in Phoenix. A very heavy turnout and slower-than-anticipated registration process led to many attendees waiting as long as 90 minutes to get into the show on Friday. The crowd was further delayed when...

Georgia college student saves 10 lives with gun; Ohio's defenseless students targeted by criminals

By Chad D. Baus One of the principle claims made in Diane Sawyer's rigged campus carry experiment , recently aired on ABC's 20/20, was that having a gun wouldn't protect a college student, that ordinary people like college students aren't trained to handle stress, that they might shoot innocent people, and that the bad guy might take their gun away. Apparently someone forgot to tell a student in...

Taken from the most recent "Page Nine", Alan Korwin's "The Uninvited Ombudsman Report" ---------- STARTERS: The Montana Firearms Freedom Act has started a blaze nationwide. Obama continues trend of appointing rabid gun-haters to important administration positions

Another bright star has been added to President Barack Obama's anti-gun constellation. By Dave Kopel Obama's newly nominated "drug czar" is Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske. And just like a real czar, the drug czar, whose formal title is director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, can destroy rights instantly, and he can set the stage for additional harm. Before the dark days of...

The Ammo Drought

By Jeff Knox Where has all the ammo gone? That's a common refrain these days and not just in a few places, but all across the country. The answer is simple and complicated, but it's not part of a nefarious plot hatched up by Washington politicians. Ammo supplies got thrown out of kilter as a result of military action in Iraq and Afghanistan and several former Warsaw Pact nations transitioning to...

The report says recent polls show shrinking support for new gun control measures and strong public sentiment for enforcing existing laws instead. So strong is the shift...

The Cybercast News Service is reporting that Congressional Democrats have introduced legislation that would ban the sale of guns between individuals at gun shows. Love Thy Neighbor: Buy a Gun

By Gerard Valentino Mankind pulled civilization out of the mud somewhere in the ancient past. In creating society, people agreed to a non-spoken compact that required everyone to look out for their neighbor. We aren't talking about a communist society where the government dictates that everyone work for the collective good, but instead an agreement between honest law-abiding people that made it...

The Problem With "Intrastate" Firearm Laws

By Ken Hanson, Esq. There has been much excitement sweeping the gun-owner boards recently over Montana's passage of a law and Texas' introduction of a bill "exempting" homemade firearms from Federal regulation. Homemade firearms are often referred to as "intrastate" firearms on the theory that they are created and exist entirely within one state. By contrast, "interstate" firearms are ones that...

A Good Gun Shop...

By Chris Chumita There are thousands of gun shops in this great country. Some are great ambassadors, but others give the whole shooting industry a black eye. So, what does a good gun store do to make it good? A good gun shop will try to help the customer choose the best gun for them and not the shop’s bottom line. They understand that this week’s most popular model is not suited for everyone...
