House committee slates 3rd hearing on BFA-backed SB 273 - civil immunity for voluntary firearm storage

The Ohio House Public Safety Committee has scheduled a third hearing for March 11 on Senate Bill 273.

SB 273 would enact the "Keep Them Safe Act" to provide guidelines and civil immunity for the voluntary storage of firearms.

On March 3, Jim Samuel, Buckeye Firearms Association (BFA) legislative affairs director, testified in favor of the bill during the House committee's second hearing.

The House committee's third hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 11. After the meeting, the video should be posted here.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield), passed unanimously as Sub. SB 273 on Nov. 19, 2025, and had its first hearing in the House committee Feb. 17.
BFA's Rob Sexton submitted testimony Oct. 15 and testified in person Oct. 29, when the legislation was still with the Senate.

BFA will continue to follow this legislation.
