Attorney General Cordray announces Ohio concealed carry reciprocity agreement with Nebraska

Attorney General Richard Cordray today announced a new reciprocity agreement with the State of Nebraska. Ohio now has agreements with 19 other states. Nine states allow Ohioans to carry there without an agreement. All together, an Ohio Concealed Handgun License (CHL) allows persons to carry in 28 states including Ohio.

When Ohio's concealed carry law went into effect more than six years ago, it called for our Attorney General to negotiate reciprocity agreements with other states that have similar laws. Our AGs have done a good job being proactive in reaching out to other states for such agreements.

With time, Ohio and most other states have updated their firearm laws. Today we add an agreement with another state where tourists from Nebraska may legally carry firearms while visiting Ohio. (Nebraska had already been honoring the Ohio license specifically, without need of mutual reciprocity agreement, so this constitutes no net change for Ohio licensees.)

We understand that there are other states that are on people's "wish list" of states to carry in and continue to work with AG Cordray and the general assembly to expand the list of states that honor an Ohio CHL.

No matter what licenses you have, you must comply with the rules of each state while traveling in that state. The The Traveler's Guide to the Firearm Laws of the 50 States is a great reference.
