Buckeye Firearms Association has joined a list of Second Amendment advocates in a letter to the Senate budget and finance committees, urging them to restore the SHORT Act in the reconciliation bill.

Data posted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives shows more than 17,200 firearms were reported lost or stolen from federally licensed firearms dealers in 2024, which at least partly explains how criminals invariably seem to manage to get their hands on a gun, while also demonstrating that restrictive gun laws don’t work.

Laws banning the carry or possession of weapons in government buildings are a very late addition to the United States. Regulations banning weapons were instituted in 1964 and in 1972. In 1988, a federal statute was passed to ban weapons in federal facilities. In 1998, the post office reinforced that general ban with a postal regulation. Here's a historical look.
