House votes to remove suppressors from NFA, but short-barreled long guns still up in air

In a historic vote last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R.1, known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act." The bill removed suppressors from the NFA, but it didn't include short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns.

Short history of bans on possession of firearms at federal facilities

Laws banning the carry or possession of weapons in government buildings are a very late addition to the United States. Regulations banning weapons were instituted in 1964 and in 1972. In 1988, a federal statute was passed to ban weapons in federal facilities. In 1998, the post office reinforced that general ban with a postal regulation. Here's a historical look.
