Northwest Ohio Legislators To Host Concealed Carry Forums

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

State Representative Steve Buehrer (R-Delta) announced today that he and State Senator Lynn Wachtmann (R-Napoleon) will host a series of educational forums on Ohio’s new concealed carry law. The educational forums will be held April 29th in Defiance, May 5th in Findlay and May 6th in Ottawa. All meetings will start at 7 p.m.

“The goal of these forums is to educate the public on Ohio’s conceal carry law which became effective on April 8th,” said Representative Buehrer. “We hope that people from across Northwest Ohio, whether they plan to apply for a concealed carry permit or are simply interested in how the law works, will attend.”

The educational forum will consist of a panel discussion including representatives from the Attorney General’s office, local law enforcement and individuals involved in handgun ownership and training. The speakers will describe the provisions of the new law, how local sheriffs are handling background checks and the process required to purchase a firearm as well as how to receive proper training.

“I am pleased to partner with Representative Buehrer and our knowledgeable panelists to present these community forums,” said Representative Wachtmann. “”I am hopeful that sportsmen, gun enthusiasts and any citizen with concerns or questions about the concealed carry law will take time to attend the forum in their area.”

The April 29, 2004 forum will be held at the Schomburg Auditorium at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio. The Schomburg Auditorium is located in Dana Hall on Sessions Avenue.

The May 5th meeting in Findlay will be held at the United Conservation & Outdoor Association which is located at 6943 Township Road 243 in Findlay, Ohio 45840.

Ottawa will host the forum on May 6th at Henry’s Restaurant located at 810 North Locust Road in Ottawa, Ohio 45875. All forums will begin at 7 p.m. and will run until approximately 8:30 p.m. There is no cost for attendance, and everyone is invited. Questions about the forums can be directed to Representative Buehrer at (614) 644-5091 or Senator Wachtmann at (614) 466-0892.

“There has been a real interest in Ohio’s concealed carry law,” remarked Rep. Buehrer. “Now that the law is effective, we hope that people will learn the provisions of the law whether they are a business owner, government official, sportsman or an individual considering applying for a permit. We all have a responsibility to understand the law and how to comply.”
