Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From citizens protecting an injuried cop to a bum attacking a woman, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

6/22/08: Canton, Ohio: Customers Try To Help Officer Struck With Bat In Store

From the article:

A police officer was struck with a bat and seriously injured on Sunday, officials said.

Also from the article:

Police said customers intervened to stop the attack.

Some people argue that CCW laws endanger the lives of police officers. However, this case shows that citizens can, and do,

come to the aid of police officers. If one of the citizens was carrying a firearm, they would not have been unarmed when they defended an injured police officer from a thug with a bat.

6/22/08: Columbus, Ohio: North Side Gun Battle Kills One, Wounds Two

From the article:

One man was killed and two others wounded early today in a chaotic gun battle outside a North Side bar.

There seemed to be a lot of guns in this so-called "gun free zone."

6/22/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Man Dies After Getting Shot In Back

From the article:

Cleveland police are looking for the person who killed a Euclid man on the street, NewsChannel5 reported.

More violence rocks the city that has declared war on law-abiding gun owners instead of the thugs who terrorize the streets.

6/20/08: Newbury Township, Ohio: Man Tries To Abduct Woman Jogger

From the article:

Geauga County authorities are looking for a man who attacked a woman while she was jogging in Newbury Township on Thursday.

Violent crime can happen anywhere, even in "safe" communities like Newbury Township. Always be prepared to defend yourself!

6/20/08: Akron, Ohio: Akron Man Takes Police Officer's Gun

From the article:

An Akron man and his mother are in jail after police said the man pulled an officer's gun from the holster and turned it on the officer with threats to kill him.

If the gun-grabbers have their way, only the police, military, and criminals will have guns. This incident shows you that only arming the police is NOT the answer!

6/19/08: New York, New York: Gunman Prompts School Evacuation

From the article:

An elementary school in Brooklyn, N.Y., was evacuated after a man ran inside with a gun. Police said the man had been involved in an armed robbery nearby. They said he was arrested in a third-floor bathroom with a loaded weapon.

It looks like New York City's strict gun laws really work.

6/18/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Mom Says She Was Slashed By Man With 'Will Work For Food' Sign

From the article:

A Cleveland woman said she was attacked by a panhandler she was trying to help.

Vera Jorgenson said she got cuts and bruises when she pulled over at the West 14th roundabout to give $2 to a man with a "will work for food" sign.

"And then he started to slash at me, again, and so I'd throw my hands up," said Jorgenson. "He got in the passenger seat of the car and in not so nice words said, "Get in the back seat of the car."

This incident helps teach us two important lessons. Always be prepared to defend yourself, and don't give money to panhandlers.
