Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From increased police patrols to a teenager fighting off a rapist, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

5/13/08: Parma, Ohio: Police Presence Increases In Parma Park Where Woman Was Attacked

From the article:

Parma police and Cleveland Metroparks rangers are increasing patrols of the West Creek Reservation after a 52-year-old Strongsville woman was severely beaten there over the weekend, near Camp Corde on West Ridgewood Drive.

No word if they'll be carrying bull-whips, the self-defense weapon Ohio Supreme Court Justice Paul Pfeifer claims would be most appropriate to defend oneself in a public park.

5/12/08: Parma, Ohio: Man Recently Released From Prison Charged In Park Attack

From the article:

The man accused of critically injuring a 52-year-old Strongsville woman over the weekend is a career criminal who has been out of prison less than two weeks, Parma police said today.

Another animal was released from prison and quickly started terrorizing law-abiding citizens. This was also another attack that happened in a park of a "safe" community. With incidents like this, it is no wonder why we are fighting for our rights to carry firearms for self-defense in ALL parks! You can read more about the attack here!

5/7/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Older Couple Attacked, Man With Baseball Bat Intervenes

From the article:

An 76-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife were attacked yesterday in the parking lot of a Kmart at West 150th Street and Lorain Avenue in Cleveland.

She was inside their car and he was outside it when a woman walked up and pushed him down to take his wallet, Lt. Thomas Stacho said. The wife got out of the car and began hitting the woman with her cane. Two men got out of a car that the woman had been in and joined the struggle. A bystander appeared with a baseball bat and scared the attackers away.

It should be noted that this attack happened in a "gun free zone" which I like to call "criminal protection zones." The PARKING LOT is posted at all entrances which makes it impossible for someone to legally carry a firearm for self-defense.

5/7/08: Riverdale, Utah: Chief's Loaded Weapon Goes Off

From the article:

It's unclear exactly how Riverdale Police Chief Dave Hansen handled a loaded gun while teaching a firearms safety course - accidentally shooting himself in the ankle.

But the incident has sparked criticism from some of his students and highlights one fact of Utah's concealed-weapon-permit courses: Instructors have no bans on loaded guns or set ammunition guidelines for their classrooms.

What an idiot! It appears that he had a total disregard for safety and broke just about all of the basic gun safety rules.

5/6/08: Lorain County, Ohio: Officials: Woman Shot In Back, Stuffed In Trunk

From the article:

The Lorain County Sheriff's Department is investigating the abduction and assault of a 43-year-old Carlisle Township woman in the Metroparks' Carlisle Reservation.

How could the gun-grabbers still want to ban citizens from legally carrying firearms for self-defense after reading stories like this? This is exactly why we are fighting for our rights to carry firearms for self-defense in parks!

5/5/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Clerk Shoots At Robber On West Side

From the article:

A gas station clerk shot at a man who robbed the Liberty station at 7 a.m. at Clark Avenue and West 52nd Street.

Is it just me, or do citizens seem to be fighting back more and more? People are tired of being terrorized and are refusing to be a victim. Hopefully, incidents such as this will help persude other "wanna-be thugs" from actually committing crimes.

5/2/08: Clermont County, Ohio: Clermont County Teen Stabs Alleged Rapist

From the article:

The girl says Robertson grabbed her, threw her to the ground, and tried to rip her clothing off. The girl used a knife she was carrying to stab Robertson, twice in the stomach and once in the leg.

Also from the article:

Investigators say Robertson has been in trouble with the law before. He's been charged with burglary in the past. In 2001, he was charged with rape and gross sexual imposition but Robertson was found incompetant to stand trial.

Robertson has a violent past and was found incompetant to stand trial. However, it appears that he was still out on the streets looking for victims. Thankfully, the girl had a weapon and was able to defend herself.
