Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From planned attacks on two schools to a very important pro-gun bill, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

4/25/08: Lakewood, Ohio: Lakewood Man Accused Of Plotting Attack On 2 Schools

From the article:

Authorities near Cleveland have arrested a man they say e-mailed an Indiana teenager about conducting a Columbine-style attack on two schools.

Our schools will continue to be vulnerable targets until we take school security seriously. Allowing the teachers and staff to legally arm themselves would be a great first step.

4/25/08: Blacksburg, Virginia: Gun Dealer Causes Stir at Virginia Tech

From the article:

Dealer Eric Thompson spoke at the school Thursday night as part of a weeklong demonstration in favor of allowing people to carry concealed weapons at colleges.

"For people who want to arm themselves, there shouldn't be policies in place to stop them," Thompson told about 60 students who attended his talk. There were only a few anti-gun questions posed to Thompson, and none of the protests school

Having Thompson speak was a great idea. This successful event is another example of the excellent work being done by the "Students For Concealed Carry On Campus."

4/24/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Police: Man Shot While Trying To Rob Motorist At Car Wash

From the article:

Officers said the owner grabbed his gun and got into a shootout with one of the would-be robbers.

This is another example of how a legally armed citizen used a gun to defend himself.

4/24/08: Swan Creek Metropark: Man Hurt, Dog Killed By Assailant In Swan Creek Metropark

From the article:

A man was hurt and his dog was killed last night after both were stabbed in Swan Creek Metropark in the 4300 block of Airport Highway, near Wenz Road, police said.

With stories like this, it is no wonder why we have to fight for our rights to legally carry a gun in ALL parks.

4/24/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Cleveland Students To Protest Against Gun Violence

From the article:

Nearly 300 students and teachers from eight Cleveland City Schools are expected to participate in a protest against gun violence at 4:40 p.m. today on Mall B downtown.

The students are being brainwashed to believe that the guns are the problem and not the thugs that use them to commit crimes. SCORES should be protesting the pro-thug culture that is rampent in the city instead of only focusing on guns.

4/23/08: State Wide: Bill Would Allow Unloaded Guns In Parks, Schools

From the article:

Senate Bill 318 would give licensed concealed carry holders the right to bring a gun to places worship, parks, daycare centers, schools and more, NBC 4's Lauren Diedrich reported.

"We want to eliminate some of the traps for the unwary and address some issues with consistency and fairness with other states," said Sen. Keith Faber, the bill's sponsor.

We need to do everything in our power to pass this bill. Contact your state senator today!
