Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From a robbery at a video store to an elderly woman being carjacked, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

4/1/08: Akron, Ohio: Police: Teen Uses Knife To Rob Video Store

From the article:

Employees said Bailey went behind the counter and held the knife toward the employees. They said he took the money and ran from the business.

You can become a victim of a violent crime anywhere at anytime. That is why it is important to always be prepared to defend yourself.

4/1/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Teens Accused Of Carrying Rifles Down Street

From the article:

Two teens accused of carrying rifles while walking down the street were arrested in Cleveland on Tuesday. Police said they chased the two teens, ages 13 and 14, on foot after they were spotted near East 120th and Parkview. The suspects were apprehended and their weapons confiscated.

Cleveland's mayor is pushing for a new law to prohibit gun possession for people under the age of 21. He stated that without the new law, there was no way to stop young kids carrying guns while walking the streets of Cleveland. This is proof that his proposed law is just about gun control and is a solution to a problem that does not exist.

3/31/08: Lancaster, Ohio: 3 In Custody After Girl Shot In Park

From the article:

An 18-year-old girl remained in critical condition Monday afternoon after she was shot at a city park late Sunday night.

Obviously there is a continuing need for the right of self-defense in parks. This is exactly why the Buckeye Firearms Association fought for statewide preemption of local gun control laws.

3/31/08: Columbus, Ohio: Restaurant Worker Shot At Drive-Through Window

From the article:

Police were searching for two men involved in a shooting at a fast-food restaurant early Sunday. The men walked up to the drive-through window at a Rally's restaurant, located at the intersection of Hudson and High streets, 10TV News reported. Police said the men shoved a rifle into the window and demanded cash.

This incodent clearly shows how employers who bans employees from carrying their legal firearms only renders the employees defenseless.

3/28/08: National: DEA Reduces Agency Laptop Theft but Missing Weapons Rate Edges Up

From the article:

Auditors said the DEA lost 22 firearms and had an additional 69 stolen over the 5 1/2-year period. The stolen weapons included pistols, rifles, shotguns, and a submachine gun.

A gun store owner are often shut down for losing a single gun or simple mistakes in paper work. However, law enforcement agencies do not face any real consequences if the do the same.

3/26/08: Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio: 83-Year-Old Woman Brutally Robbed In Cuyahoga Falls

From the article:

Cuyahoga Falls police are looking for the man who carjacked and struck an 83-year-old woman yesterday.

Firearms are great equalizers, especially for the elderly. This incident is another example of how a firearm could have prevented the robbery and assault.
