Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From a 13 year old kid being shot to a woman being murdered WHILE calling 911, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

3/24/08: Cleveland, Ohio: 13-Year-Old Shot In Leg

From the article:

Police are investigating a shooting on Cleveland's east side. A 13-year-old boy was shot in the leg on East 113th Street at about 8 p.m. Sunday.

More crime in a city that is spending way too much time attacking LEGAL gun ownership.

3/23/08: Strasburg, Ohio: Police Looking For Man Who Robbed Cash Advance Store

From the article:

Tuscarawas County authorities are looking for a man who robbed a Strasburg store at gunpoint on Saturday.

Crime can happen anywhere at anytime, even in smaller cities/towns like Strasburg. Be prepared at all times!

3/22/08: Kent, Ohio: Eastlake Men Indicted In Kent State Assault

From the article:

Two Eastlake men were arrested and charged on Friday with assaulting a Kent State University student with a baseball bat and a shotgun in February.

Also from the article:

Police said the two broke into a University Drive home and demanded the victim hand over money and cell phones. Kent State University police beefed up patrols after the incident.

Once again, our "gun free" college campuses ensured that the victims were unarmed and vulnerable.

3/21/08: Brooklyn, New York: 200 Surveillance Cameras At Van Dyke Houses Fail To Stop Rape Suspect

From the article:

Once again a rapist was caught on videotape, and once again cops failed to see him, police sources said Thursday. A 19-year-old woman was raped at knifepoint inside the Van Dyke houses in Brooklyn early Thursday - a housing complex with more than 200 cameras supposedly monitored around the clock by the NYPD.

This is even more proof that we cannot count on the police to protect us. The illusion of safety created by surveillance cameras is also exposed. It also appears that this was not a one time incident since the article uses the term "once again" at least twice. It should be noted that the victim was left vulnerable by the law that prevents people under 21 from owning a handgun, that and the fact that it is almost impossible to get a concealed handgun license in New York City.

3/20/08: Camas, Washington: Police: Woman, 66, Captures Armed Robber

From the article:

A 66-year-old woman wrestled a robber to the ground Wednesday, giving police time to arrive at the scene and take him into custody, police said.

Cool! It is always great to see citizens taking a proactive approach to fighting crime.

3/20/08: West Covina, California: Woman Shot Dead While Calling 911

From the article:

A woman was asking a 911 dispatcher for help when her pleas were interrupted by gunshots, then silence. She was shot to death. The woman told the dispatcher someone was trying to break into her home in upscale West Covina, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Dan Rosenberg said. "Deputies heard gunshots followed by silence and an open phone line," he said.

Gun-grabbers are always preaching that we do not need guns to protect ourselves because all we have to do is call 911. This tragic incident is an example of how helpless you are when all you can do is call 911 for help.
