12/31/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Cleveland Sees Highest Number Of Homicides In 12 Years

From the article:

Cleveland police have one more homicide to investigate as the year 2007 comes to a close.

On Monday morning, 31-year-old Kenneth Grove was beaten to death in front of a home on Parkhill. Police believe he was attacked and killed after he tried to rob a man at gunpoint.

The number of homicides in Cleveland this year is a big concern among residents and city leaders, reported NewsChannel5's Bob Jones.

I'm afraid that this trend will continue as long as Cleveland ignores the real causes of crime and continues to blame it on gun ownership.

12/27/07: State Wide: Ohio Deer Hunters Pick Up Muzzleloaders This Week

From the article:

Ohio's gun hunters have their final season to shoot deer, today through Sunday, but they'll have to put away their regular shotguns and handguns and use only muzzleloading rifles or shotguns.

Good luck, and be safe out there!

12/24/07: Columbus, Ohio: Metal Thieves Not Slowing Down Despite City Law

From the article:

Officials say a law intended to stop thefts of copper wire and other building materials has had little effect on the city's booming market for stolen scrap metal.

Also from the article:

Police say the law, which mandates that scrap dealers require identification from their sellers, has helped nab a few local criminals. But without statewide rules, thieves can easily and safely sell metals somewhere else.

Apparently the city's ban on selling scrap metal without an ID is not working any better than their assault weapon ban stopped crime. It is interesting to note that the city needs statewide rules for this, but wants their own local laws for guns.

12/21/07: Whitehall, Ohio: Man Thwarts Restaurant Robbery

From the article:

"I saw him grab a bag and came out and that's when I tackled him," Jeremiah said.

Lee tried to make it to the door, but Jeremiah pushed him into the condiment stand and wrestled him to the floor. Jeremiah said Lee continued to struggle, but a well-placed knee was enough to keep him pinned to the floor.

Another criminal stopped because people are refusing to let criminals take over.

12/21/07: Erie Township, Ohio: Ground Broken For Range At Camp Perry

From the article:

The Civilian Marksmanship Program is cooperating with the Ohio National Guard in constructing the new facility, which will provide electronic skills training for Guardsmen and an 80-point air gun range for CMP training and competition programs.

It is always great to see a new range being built!

12/21/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Two Shootings Leave 3 Injured

From the article:

There were two shootings on the city's east side Thursday night.

It looks like two thugs did not take advantage of Mayor Jackson's "Gun Buy Back" program. When will the City quit wasting money on it and start going after the violent criminals?

12/21/07: Akron, Ohio: Three Boys With A Gun Rob Pizza Carrier In Akron

From the article:

Three boys, perhaps as young as 12, robbed a pizza delivery girl at gunpoint last night in Akron.

Pizza delivery can actually be a very dangerous job. Unfortunately, many companies actually forbid their drivers from carrying a firearm to protect themselves.

12/21/07: Akron, Ohio: Polite Armed Robber Gets Cash

From the article:

First, he ordered food and waited for the employee to open the register. He then pulled up his shirt, revealing a gun in his waistband. He apologized "for doing this."

Is it just me, or does Akron seem to be trying really hard to compete with Cleveland to be the most crimeridden city in northeastern Ohio?
