Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From the fundamental right of gun ownership to a women's shooting event, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

9/1/07: National: Responsible Gun Ownership Is Fundamental Right

From the article:

The right of law-abiding citizens to arm themselves has existed in this nation since its inception and is part of the unique experiment that was and still is America. That concept is based on the right to defend one's family and property.

9/1/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Shootings In Cleveland Kill 12-Year-Old Girl And Man

From the article:

A 12-year-old girl and a 23-year-old man were killed by gunfire in strikingly similar yet unrelated incidents within an hour of each other Saturday.

In Slavic Village on the East Side, two men with guns chased each other through residential streets near E. 55th Street, police said.

Asteve'e "Cookie" Thomas, who was walking to a nearby corner store, was caught in the crossfire. She died after a bullet struck her in the neck.

Also from the article:

Meanwhile, in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood on the West Side, two other men were fighting, but only one of them had a gun. According to police, the man shot Angel Feliciano at least twice.

More violent episodes on the streets of the city that has declared war on law-abiding citizens. Mayor Jackson actually blamed HB347 as one of the reasons that the 12-year old victim was tragically murdered. What I did not hear was Mayor Jackson putting the blame on the thugs who did the shooting. The latest reports indicate that at least one of the suspects was a fugitive and therefore was unable to possess a firearm.

8/31/07: Cleveland, Ohio: Police: Women Attacked In Ohio City

From the article:

Police need help finding a man who was accused of breaking into a home and sexually assaulting women in Ohio City.

Police said a man entered a home near West 30th Street and Carroll Court early Tuesday morning and beat and sexually assaulted two of the women in the home.

Ohio City is the name of a neighborhood that is inside the city limits of Cleveland. This is just another example of the violence that the residents of Cleveland are experiencing as their war on law-abiding gun owners continues.

8/31/07: National: Recent Study On Media Bias Shows Need For Gun Owners To Speak Out

From the article:

In perhaps the best demonstration of hypocrisy, Hamm lamented that the anti-gun contingent is frustrated by the media’s lack of coverage of gun violence! How one who advocates gun bans can be upset when the media reports on virtually every criminal misuse of a gun, yet says nary a word when a law-abiding citizen uses a gun for self-defense, is mind boggling.

Every gun owner must challenge every biased report we see in all forms of media.

8/29/07: Land O' Lakes, Florida: Sport A Hit Even With Shooters Who Miss

From the article:

The National Shooting Sports Foundation says women make up not quite 20 percent of this country's nearly 3-million sporting clays shooters. But that number is going up. The National Sporting Goods Association says the number of women in target shooting sports has spiked 50 percent in just the last five years.

Women are the fastest growing groups of shooters, and we need to encourage all of the women in our lives to learn to shoot.
