The Stand Your Ground Movement, Part V: Liberals Have Not Assimilated

By John Longenecker

For a long time, many, many Americans have believed that Liberalism is a mental disorder. Savage wrote a book on it. I wrote a book on it. Dr. Laura has commented on excess baggage messing up relationships. Lots of authors have noticed, and correctly, I believe, that there is a marked difference between the origins of conservative values and origins of liberal values, that difference being that conservatives are more mature and liberals are more adolescent. (Which explains the double-standard: the liberals view themselves as teens to be tolerated and view conservatives as adults to be accountable, or adult.)

Americans believe this because, and this is one of the features of many impairments, Liberals seem to be out of touch with reality.

Americans are just as perceptive as always, sensing when someone is a little ‘pixilated’, out of kilter or otherwise impaired so. [We can say most Americans since we know how so-called extremist values are actually Mainstream values. I give Talkradio a great deal of credit for that, because Talkradio is a medium where people can compare notes in real time.]

Reality distortion devices erected by an impaired person in order to cope are common, but when they enter the political arena and begin to formulate policy – even insist on it – they are operating on a great deal of personal misinformation input.

In this, I say that Liberals have not assimilated.

My belief is that liberals with old angst over old wounds bring their anxiety to the political arena to change politically what can be changed only on the couch.

Excess baggage. Hypersensitivity. Call it whatever you want. It explains their wacky policies.

For all the lip service Democrats pay to subjects such as safety, immigration, money and the economy in general, liberty and family values (think of parental notification as their idea of family values) they sure do the opposite. Not surprising when you figure reality distortion as a defense mechanism against anxiety over old wounds.

When you look at such unrelenting, tireless activism against a backdrop of the tried and true values which have protected us so far, and the fact that people who share those values are less stressed and happier, the shorter but clear history of leftist ruination tells the story.

The recent Pew Study on how conservatives are generally happier wasn’t anything new, especially in this light.

Liberalism is fighting something that has nothing to do with politics. It’s more like inner demons. Inner demons persisting from wrongly interpreted experience, what the shrinks call inner experience.

It is clear that liberals have simply not grown up. It’s clear that Liberals cannot get past their traumatic anxiety of old.

They hang on to old injustices, which anxiety is triggered later in life by the symbols that remind them of old wounds and the anxiety of imagining imminent pain to come.

Psychoanalysis?

Yeah, so?

Now what?

Tolerance is great, but one can keep an open mind without letting their brains fall out. Cooperation with liberals in 2006 is to let your brains fall out.

If you don’t work hard to hand down your rights from generation to generation, you might as well hand them over right now, and if we cooperate too much with such impairments for the sake of tolerance and cooperation, we’ll wind up surrendering the whole nation for nothing.

Because this won’t make liberal anxiety go away. Ruination of the country will not stop their personal pain and anxiety.

It’ll make America go away, but it won’t relieve the anxiety of the forever-wounded – the injustice collectors.

The solution is the same formula as always: don’t give in to teenagers posing as adults. Stand by your values.

In a word, Stand Your Ground.

This means fully accepting the idea that liberalism is an anger triggered by living in liberty, hatred of liberty for others, ambition for self, superior attitude as an isolation mechanism — a free country is symbol-rich or target-rich for people looking for soothing release – and the fear and anxiety that if anyone but Democrats gets into office, the pipeline to soothing that anxiety will be cut off.

You can be very sure that the rule of some over the masses is most satisfying personally.

We and our symbols do not vex liberals, liberals become anxious over the irrational fear that what we do outside their influence without them will hurt them; it’s irrational because it hasn’t happened yet, and probably won’t. On the other hand, liberalism and leftism are responsible for millions of deaths at the hands of governments.

At the hands of governments.

The only answer is for us to stand our ground, to understand that we can’t turn the country back over to teenagers and mean little girls. (And you know who I mean.)

Every one of the gun grabbers — every one of the officials who say theyprotect privacy but will insist in National ID Cards, every official who speaks about rule of law, but breaks the law with privilege — is a mean little boy or mean little girl who’s merely trying to feel better by taking politically instead of working through their personal problems.

That’s my read of them.

As long as their problems are heard in the political arena, we’re fools, because it will neither soothe their anxiety – not ever – nor will it contribute much to justice, because they are seeking not justice after all, but freedom from personal anxiety and in the wrong venue at that.

I’ve written that the War on Poverty, the War on Crime, and the War on Drugs haven’t been won because that is not where crime is fought.

I have news for you: politics in not where anxiety is soothed, either. The impaired’s belief system says even to them that they seek justice, but justice is not what liberals want. They look for freedom from anxiety. It’s not found in Congress or any public service, but inside oneself.

Liberals need to grow up and become more American.

They need to assimilate, and then set the example. Right now they don’t.

Being American means a lot of things, best left to another edition. It doesn’t mean to change our way of life, but to appreciate it, to share it, to thrive on it and to live it.

That’s America.

And, of course, to live our way of life unfettered is good for the country.
