A North Toledo man was shot late Saturday by a man who then took the victim’s wallet.

Dickie Isom, 2239 North Erie St., told police he was about to enter his vehicle in front of his home when a man approached about 10:10 p.m. Mr. Isom said he ran when he saw the man had a handgun.

The suspect chased him and fired two shots, one hitting Mr. Isom in the right buttock. The suspect caught up with Mr. Isom and took his wallet.

Mr. Isom was treated in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, police said.

Meanwhile, in a state that allows its law-abiding citizens to carry a
concealed handgun for self-defense, a different outcome resulted when this motorist was attacked next to his parked car:

When two men tried to rob Jorge Anez in a movie theater parking lot, he took out his own gun and shot his assailants killing one and critically wounding the other. Anez, 23, was walking across the theater's parking lot around 11:40 p.m. when a man stepped out of a blue Chevy Caprice, pointed a gun at Anez, and ordered him to go to his car and turn over his belongings, said police spokesman Carlos Negron. When Anez reached into his car, the armed man pistol-whipped him. Fearing he would be killed, Anez then pulled out his own gun. His assailant started to run away, then turned and pointed his gun at Anez. Anez fired several shots hitting the gunman and a second man who had gotten out of the car. A third man, the driver of the Caprice, and another accomplice then sped off.

• Ohio law did nothing to stop the Toledo criminal from being armed, but certainly prevented Dickie Isom, the innocent victim, from having the right to choose to bear arms to defend himself.
