"No-guns" DQ employees pistol-whipped, shot trying to follow robber's orders

The same anti-self-defense crowd that encourages businesses to post "no-guns" signs as a means of promoting "safety" is also fond of saying that the best way to avoid being hurt by a criminal is to just give them what they want, and wait for the police to get there.

But once again, persons forced to work in the gun ban extremists' version of a "safe working environment" have found out the hard way that while posting "no-guns" doesn't stop armed criminals, it stops armed citizens who might have been able to defend against an attack.

From a WBNS (Columbus CBS) story:

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. at the Dairy Queen located on Tamarack Circle South, 10TV's Lindsey Seavert reported.

The gunman entered the restaurant and demanded money from the register, police said.

Jack Workman, 55, was complying with the gunman's request when he was shot in the abdomen. Workman was transported to Riverside Hospital, where he was in stable condition early Wednesday morning.

Workman and two employees were the only people in the restaurant at the time of the robbery.

Kenny Smith, a worker who witnessed the robbery, told 10TV News the gunman struck another employee.

"They hit a girl ... a 16-year-old girl," Smith said. "Hit her in the head with a gun.

"She couldn't open the drawer. Jack opened the drawer, he put his hands up, and they shot him," Smith said.

Police said the gunman fled on foot after taking money out of register.

Post "No Guns" sign? Check.

Give the robber what he wants? Check.

Avoid violent attack? Not so much.

In its coverage of the robbery, Columbus' NBC affiliate is reporting that Mr. Workman was shot in the stomach.

Police described the suspect as a black male who is about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 160 to 190 pounds. He has dreadlocks or braids and was wearing dark clothing and bandana across his face.
