NICS: January 2023 gun sales, background checks tick up year over year

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) gun sales and background checks are slightly higher for January 2023 than they were for January 2022. Gun sales are 6 percent higher, and background checks are 3 percent higher than in January 2022. On May 20, 2022, Jared Michael Harrison was pulled over by the Lawton Police Department in Oklahoma for an alleged traffic violation. The officer smelled marijuana.
