Judges – the least known candidates

By Jim Irvine

While the race for Attorney General and Governor will garner the lion's share of coverage, no less important than those races are Judicial races. Very little time or scrutiny is given to candidates for this most powerful of offices. Further complicating judicial races is the fact that Judges face an entirely different set of rules regarding fundrasiing and speaking about their positions on the issues. Given the fact that one judge can make or break the efforts of hundreds of legislators, it is critical for the gun owner to do research and support the best candidates possible.

Buckeye Firearms has endorsed two judges in their Republican primaries this May. Tim Evans (R) for Common Pleas Judge, Butler County and John Willamski (R) for the Third District Court of Appeals.

John Willamowski – Third District Court of Appeals. (This race covers Allen, Auglaize, Crawford, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Logan,
Marion, Mercer, Paulding, Putnam, Seneca, Shelby, Union, Van Wert and Wyandot counties)

John Willamowski has been a State Representative for 8 years and chaired the House Committee that handled HB274. He was one of the first legislators to agree to a meeting, even before we had formed a PAC. Like many politicians, his friendliness makes you quickly feel like old friends, but his interest as a legislator is on passing good law. John is one of the key people that helped bring concealed carry to Ohio.

John is a distinguished attorney, the kind of attorney you wish they all were. He understands that in the legislature, his job has been to make law, and as judge his job will be to interpret law. (As opposed to those who like to “legislate from the bench.”)
Willamoswki has 20 years experience practicing law in Ohio, including trial courtroom experience, seminar panelists, and serving on special task forces for the Ohio Supreme Court. He is licensed by the Supreme Court of Ohio and the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio.
John is a current or former Chairman of the House Judiciary, Correctional Institution Inspection, Civil and Commercial Law and Municipal Government and Urban Revitalization committees. He has served as a Vice-Chairman and/or member on several other committees.

John Willamowski deserves your support.

Tim Evans
- Common Pleas Court, Butler County.

Tim Evans has been a Life Member of the NRA since 1971 and has been the President or Vice-President of the Butler County Sportsmens Club for twenty years. He is also a member of the Fairfield Sportsmens Club and is a member of the Isaac Walton League.

He has been a volunteer Hunter Safety Instructor for the Ohio Division of Wildlife for eighteen years and has been Chief Instructor at numerous Hunter Safety Courses throughout Ohio.

Tim is also an NRA instructor who has taught Concealed Carry Classes to members of the Isaac Walton League, the Butler County Sportsmens Club, and many others. He works on a volunteer basis with all proceeds benefiting the above mentioned clubs. Since Ohio's concealed carry law has been in effect, Tim has organized and run these CCW Classes helping well over 200 area residents to meet the requirements for their Ohio Concealed Carry license. Tim is one of us.

Tim has practiced law for over thirty years. He is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Ohio, the Supreme Court of the United States, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, United States District Court of the Southern District of Ohio, and the United States Tax Court.

He also sits as an acting Judge in Hamilton Municipal Court and has tried numerous cases both as an attorney and as a Judge. He is rated as "Highly Recommended" by the Butler County Bar Association. Both of Tim's opponents are rated as not recommended.

Tim's background both as an attorney and as pro gun & pro sportsman make him well suited to the position of Common Pleas Judge. He deserves your support.

Judges are in many ways the most important vote you will cast this year. Both John Willamowski and Tim Evans have a lifetime of actions to back up their words. They will both make excellent judges, but they need to win their Republican Primary elections.

If you live in Butler or one of the listed Counties for Willamowski, you are blessed to have an impeccable candidate to support. Please make sure your friends and neighbors also support them. Put a campaign sign in your yard, make some phone calls, and help distribute literature. If you live near these counties, you are encouraged to travel to help these excellent candidates.
